Track-focused Audi RS 4 Avant Competition launches

As if the Audi RS 4 Avant estate isn’t potent enough, the German firm has now launched a ‘Competition’ variant designed for the track.

The engine in the Competition is the same used in all of the other RS 4 variants - a 2.9 litre V6 developing power of 450 PS and 600 Nm of torque.

But due to shorter shifting times, the Competition actually shaves 0.2 seconds from the 0-62mph acceleration figure, getting it down to 3.9 seconds.

Top speed has also increased to 180mph, making it the fastest RS 4 Avant in the model range - even more rapid than the range-topping ‘Vorsprung’ RS 4.

Meanwhile a host of chassis improvements give the Competition the edge when on the circuit.

There’s manually-adjustable ‘RS Sport Suspension Pro’ coilovers to ‘maximise handling performance without compromising everyday usability’, according to Audi.

The uprated suspension also means the Competition sits 10mm lower than the regular RS 4 Avant, and can be lowered further by an additional 10mm.

An Audi spokesperson adds:

“A higher spring rate, three-way adjustable dampers, and stiffer anti-roll bars guarantee exceptional precision, composure and control.”

There’s dynamic steering improvements and an enhanced quattro sport differential for more precise handling.

A new ‘RS Sports Exhaust System Plus’ features matte black tailpipes and generates a ‘more intense sound pattern’ while also shedding 8kg in weight over the regular RS 4 Avant.

The Competition also looks more aggressive than the standard car.

Lease customers will enjoy a ‘Sebring Crystal’ black paint job, unique 20 inch alloys, red brake calipers, and a carbon finish for the front splitter, mirror housings, front air intake inserts and rear diffuser.

In the cabin, there are uprated sport seats, red decorative stitching on the RS floor mats, centre console and door armrests, and red edging on the seatbelts.

You also get an Alcantara flat-bottomed steering wheel.

Prices start at £84,600 to buy outright - and there’s a limited run of 75 units for the UK market.
