Mercedes EQB Review
Mercedes-Benz is continuing its march into the future with its latest fossil-fuel-free offering – but does the EQB do enough to tempt you away from the combustion engine?
Seven seats as standard, a sumptuous interior, four-wheel-drive and a range of up to 257 miles between charges - the all-electric Mercedes-Benz EQB SUV could be the stylish solution to all of your family’s needs.
The EQB sits between the smaller EQA and the larger EQC in the Mercedes-Benz electric range. You could also see it as the battery-powered equivalent of the traditionally-fuelled GLB SUV.
Read moreThe brilliantly-designed EQB is also a major rival to the likes of the Audi Q4 e tron and the BMW iX3.
And with a tempting amount of equipment offered as standard, the EQB is well worth a look, particularly if having practicality in a compact package is important to you.
Firstly, all EQB models, no matter which trim level you choose, have a third row of single folding seats meaning you can accommodate seven people. All EQB’s also get Mercedes-Benz ‘4MATIC’ four wheel drive system, too. The boot is generous, running to 465 litres with the third row seats folded flat.
There are two main EQB variants - the 228 hp ’300 4MATIC’ EQB and the more powerful ‘350 4MATIC’, which takes the horsepower up to a potent 292 hp.
Both models utilise a 66.5 kWh battery, and both versions also have the same range - between 250 and 257 miles before you need to stop and plug-in the EQB. But the 350 4MATIC is certainly the most sprightly of the two, covering 0-62mph in just 6.0 seconds.
Using a standard 7 kW wallbox charger, you can replenish the EQB’s battery from 10-100 per cent in just 5 hrs 45 minutes. Meanwhile the EQB has also 100 kW fast-charging capabilities, which will take the battery from 10 - 80 per cent full in just 32 minutes.
Meanwhile there are two trim levels available with both the 300 and 350 EQB - base ‘AMG Line’ followed by ‘AMG Line Premium’.
Choosing the AMG Line gives lease customers goodies such as ambient lighting, cruise control, a ‘Parking Package’ with reversing camera, heated front seats, active brake assist, lane keep assist, as well as Mercedes-Benz’ eye-catching twin-screen ‘MBUX’ multimedia system with a widescreen cockpit.
The AMG Line Premium adds things like keyless go, an uprated sound system, wireless mobile charging, a panoramic glass sunroof and larger 19 inch alloys.
Also remember that because there are zero emissions at the tailpipe, the EQB makes a lot of sense as a company car lease, as business customers would pay just 2% Benefit in Kind (BIK) tax for the year 2022-2023.
