At its heart lies a thunderous 3.8 litre V8 that produces power of 620 PS and 457 lb-ft of peak torque. That power is channelled to the rear wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission which also boasts McLaren’s ‘Inertia Push technology’, resulting in explosive shift times.
Acceleration from 0-62mph takes place in just 2.9 seconds, a sprint time aided by an ultra-lightweight motorsport suspension system that features aluminium wishbones as well as stiff anti-roll bars.
That, combined with a brake-boosting system borrowed from the McLaren Senna race team, results in razor-sharp, confidence-inspiring handling, wherever you choose to take the 620R.
Your eye will be immediately drawn to the 620R’s distinctive carbon fibre rear wing, another component taken from the GT4 track car, and which adds up to 185kg of extra downforce, depending on which of the three settings you deploy.
And while the interior is functional as opposed to luxurious - with items such as the air conditioning, audio system and floor carpet removed for crucial weight saving reasons - you’ll arguably never feel more engaged and ‘at one’ with the road or track ahead.
