The Hyundai i20 was first launched in the UK way back in the late Noughties and it has long been synonymous with affordable, sensible and comfortable motoring.
It sits in Hyundai’s range squarely between the smaller i10 and the larger i30, while also having a similar footprint to the high-riding Bayon.
Hyundai says its i20 ‘sets new standards in the small car segment’ by integrating a comprehensive safety package with advanced connectivity features.

The mid-range Black Line trim adds a larger 10.25-inch driver display, 16-inch black alloys, black door mirrors, LED headlights, heated steering wheel, and heated front seats.
Tech Line
The range-topping Tech Line grade boasts larger 17-inch alloys, auto air con, rain-sensing wipers, front parking sensors, keyless entry and start, wireless phone charging, and multi-colour ambient lighting.
You can also add the ‘Tech Pack’, which unlocks a BOSE sound system and tilting and sliding sunroof.

The latest Hyundai i20 comes exclusively with a 1.0-litre petrol engine that can be mated to either a manual or automatic transmission. It’s not particularly powerful, producing 90 PS, and the i20 takes a leisurely 12.8 seconds to accelerate from 0-62mph with the dual clutch transmission. The manual box reduces that time to 11.5 seconds.
Fuel economy differs slightly depending on the trim level of the Hyundai i20. Element and Black Line models are both capable of returning 49.6 miles to the gallon - and that figure is consistent across both the manual and automatic gearbox. If you opt for the range-topping Tech Line model (which adds weight via a panoramic sunroof, among other extras) the fuel economy shrinks slightly to 47.9 mpg. Both of those figures suggest the i20 will help to keep fuel costs low.
The latest Hyundai i20 has a boot that measures 352 litres. That’s larger than some rivals, including the Vauxhall Corsa and Volkswagen Polo, but falls short of the 391 litres of luggage space available in the Renault Clio.
