The Starray - or the Starray EM-i Super Hybrid, to give it its full title - is a medium-sized plug-in hybrid SUV from Chinese manufacturer Geely.
If you’re not familiar with the name, you can reassure yourself that Geely is a global mega manufacturer that has brands like Volvo, Polestar, Lotus and Smart under its umbrella.
The Geely Starray competes with heavyweights like the Volkswagen Tiguan, Hyundai Tucson and the Ford Kuga in the leasing market, as well as the Jaecoo 7 and BYD Sealion 5.
It’s spacious, temptingly-priced, and its PHEV powertrain boasts a colossal range of up to 84 miles in EV mode - which is right up there with the best in class.
You’ll arguably want to lease the Geely Starray because of its efficient plug-in hybrid powertrain.
There’s a choice of two battery packs - 18.4kWh and 29.8kWh – giving electric-only ranges of 51 miles and 84 miles respectively.
They combine with a traditional 1.5-litre petrol engine to produce power of 262 PS and 262 Nm of torque and which gives you a sprightly 0-62mph acceleration time of 8.0 seconds.
There are three trims to choose from - Pro, Max and Ultra - with the standard list of equipment being extensive and featuring heated electrically adjustable front seats, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and keyless entry.
The entry-level Pro trim comes with 19-inch alloys, a 15.4-inch touchscreen, synthetic leather upholstery, heated front seats, a 360-degree camera, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, keyless entry, and vehicle-to-load (V2L) capabilities. You also get a full suite of safety tech that includes intelligent adaptive cruise control, lane change assist, and emergency lane keep assist.
The Max grade adds extras like a head-up display, panoramic sunroof, an uprated 16-speaker sound system, and powered tailgate.
Ultra models get the larger battery with the 84-mile EV range and also enjoy an increased fast charging capability of 60 kW DC.
