About the BMW XM SUV
It’s fair to say that BMW XM turned heads when it was first launched in 2022, in more ways than one.
The hulking SUV’s bold, in-your-face looks left some BMW aficionados speechless while others gasped at its raging bull-esque front face, complete with angry flared nostrils.
While the looks are controversial, depending on who you speak to, there’s no arguing about the XM’s performance stats.
That’s because this plug-in hybrid behemoth is the most powerful BMW production model ever built. Full stop.
Why lease the BMW XM SUV?
You’ll lease the BMW XM because you want to get behind the wheel of the most powerful ’M’ car available right now.
With range-topping ‘Label models’, a 4.4-litre V8 petrol engine is mated to a 29.5 kWh battery and electric motor for a combined output of 748 hp and 1,000 Nm of torque (with Label models)..
Acceleration is face-melting while you can enjoy a 180 mph top speed with the optional M Driver’s Package.
Yet despite all of the XM’s performance, its plug-in hybrid powertrain can still deliver an EV range of up to 50 miles while helping to lower your fuel bill.

BMW XM Frequently Asked Questions
The BMW XM is a high-performance luxury SUV from BMW’s M division, combining a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 with an electric motor for plug-in hybrid thrills. It’s the most powerful M car in BMW’s line-up, just inching ahead of the BMW M5 (another plug-in hybrid).
There are two main variants of the BMW XM; the standard model and the range-topping Label version. Standard models get 476hp, the XM Label ups the power to 748hp. It makes the BMW XM the most powerful M model currently available, ahead of the 727hp BMW M5 (though the M5 is quicker to accelerate from 0-62mph, with the M5 Saloon doing it in just 3.5 seconds).
The XM is a plug-in hybrid (PHEV). It combines a petrol V8 with an electric motor for performance and partial electric-only driving. Fully electric M models do not exist yet, but BMW has plans for M Performance EVs, with the first example due to arrive in 2027.
The BMW XM offers a range of around 50 miles in EV mode. That compares well to rivals like the Lamborghini Urus SE (another plug-in hybrid), which offers a range of up to 37 miles using electricity alone.
The XM Label is currently the most powerful BMW M car, surpassing the M5 and M7 when it comes to sheer horsepower. The XM’s SUV body makes it taller and heavier than other BMW saloons or coupes but still extremely fast and honed for track use. For comparison purposes, the BMW M5 produces 727hp and the BMW M7’s power output is 659 hp.
