Billed as BMW’s first fully-fledged electrified ‘M’ car, the range-topping XM is a plug-in hybrid SUV with luxury to match its blistering performance.
A rival to the Bentley Bentayga, Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT, and the most potent versions of the Range Rover, the all-wheel drive BMW XM sits above the BMW iX M60 in the German firm’s line-up.
Read moreThe five-seater is powered by a 4.4 litre petrol V8 engine that’s mated to a 25.7 kWh battery and electric motor. They combine to produce power of 662 PS and a colossal 800 Nm of torque.
It means the BMW XM can accelerate from 0-62mph in 4.3 seconds - yet is still able to travel for up to 55 miles using electricity alone. BMW also suggests the powertrain can return up to 176 mpg on a perfect run.
An even more commanding variant is also available to lease - the BMW XM Label Red. Here power is increased to 758 PS, torque is hiked to a mighty 1,000Nm, while the 0-62mph sprint time dips to just 3.8 seconds.
While there’s nothing ‘entry level’ about the BMW XM, the base 662 PS models come fully loaded with an M Sport differential, adaptive M suspension, electromechanical roll stabilisation, rear-wheel steering, and an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission with Launch Control as standard.
The ‘M Lounge’ cabin features diamond quilting and Alcantara upholstery, as well as a Harman Kardon Surround Sound System with 16 speakers.
The list of driver assistance systems is also comprehensive, and includes Front Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning including lane return with steering assistance, Evasion Assistant, Alertness Assistant and Speed Limit Info system including no-overtaking indicator and manual Speed Limit Assist.
Label Red models add ‘Toronto Red’ metallic accents on the exterior and interior, a higher-spec sound system, an uprated suspension, Integral Active Steering, and M Sport braking. .
With an efficient plug-in hybrid system, the BMW XM will also help to reduce the Benefit in Kind (BIK) tax burden for company car drivers.
