Update for Suzuki Swace hybrid

Suzuki has announced an update for its Swace - and it’s good news if you’re looking to lease a frugal, practical hybrid estate.

The Swace, first launched in 2020, shares a lot in common with the Toyota Corolla Touring Sports estate, thanks to a unique alliance between the two Japanese firms.

And, like the Corolla, the Swace is a self-charging hybrid - which doesn’t need to be plugged in - and which marries a 1.8 litre petrol engine with an electric motor.

What’s new for 2023 is that you can now enjoy more power than before, with the combined maximum output jumping significantly from 122 hp to 140 hp.

The power from the electric motor has also been boosted from 53 kW to 70 kW, which gives you more torque - up to 185 Nm from 163 Nm.

That means, says Suzuki, that lease customers will enjoy a 0-62mph time reduced to 9.4 seconds from 11.1 seconds.

There are two trim levels to choose from - Motion and Ultra - and both are crammed with driver assistance and safety software.

Motion models enjoy a collision avoiding ‘Emergency Driving Stop’ system, Dynamic Radar Cruise control, as well as creature comforts like heated front seats, heated steering wheel, a rear parking camera, and a new digital instrument cluster.

The range-topping Ultra grade adds updated Bi-LED projector headlights, Safe Exit Assist, Smart Door locking, Front and Rear Park distance sensors, Blind Spot Monitor, Rear Cross traffic Alert, interior ambient lighting, and centre console tray with wireless charger.

Your passengers will thank you for choosing a Suzuki Swace lease, too.

A Suzuki spokesperson explains:

“The cabin offers versatility and comfort to support the active lifestyles of both its driver and passengers. With a generous tandem distance of 928 mm between the front and rear seats, the rear cabin comfort and legroom is one of the best in its class. Convenient storage spaces can be found throughout the cabin, offering ample room for storing small items such as phones and drinks in both the first and second rows.”

You also get a cavernous 596 litre boot, which just beats the luggage space available in a Skoda Octavia estate.

And because the Swace can seamlessly switch between sipping petrol and driving using electricity alone, fuel economy is exceedingly wallet-friendly, returning up to 62.7 mpg.

A Suzuki spokesperson adds:

“Swace offers smooth driving comfort and stable, responsive handling with a low centre of gravity design and finely tuned suspension. The low bonnet line and location of the hybrid battery beneath the rear seats help give the car its low stance, reducing body roll around corners, improving stability and contributing to a smoother ride.”
