Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV ready to launch

Mercedes-Benz has now launched its eagerly-anticipated electric EQE SUV - and when it comes to luxury, you won’t be disappointed.

But first, a slight recap.

This isn’t the first ‘EQE’ in the Mercedes-Benz line-up, as there’s also an equally-upmarket EQE Saloon to run the rule over.

The EQE SUV slots into the manufacturer’s line-up alongside the even more premium EQS SUV, the latter of which is one of the most sought-after cars in the entire range.

And the EQE SUV will be equally desirable, coming with ‘Airmatic’ air suspension as standard on all models, and featuring a choice of two battery-electric powertrains that offer a range of up to 334 miles between charges. Want to know more about how the range will translate? Take a look at our guide on official v. real-world battery range.

As a rival to cars like the BMW iX or the Tesla Model X, the Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV will take some beating.

The two powertrains available are the ‘350 4MATIC’ or the ‘500 4MATIC’, both of which are all-wheel drive and use an 89 kWh battery. There’s also 200 kW rapid charging capabilities.

In terms of replenishing the battery, Mercedes-Benz says that when you visit a fast charging station you’ll wait just 31 minutes to take the battery from 10-80% full.

The ‘350’ has power of 292 PS and a 0-62mph acceleration time of 6.6 seconds, while the ‘500’ takes power up to 408 PS and the 0-62mph sprint time down to 4.9 seconds.

It is, however, the 350 that offers the better range - 334 miles compared with the 500’s 324 miles.

That compares well with the Tesla Model X’s range of around 348 miles.

There are four trim levels to choose from - the entry-level AMG Line through to AMG Line Premium, AMG Line Premium Plus, and the range-topping Business Class.

With the base level model, you can still expect electric memory-function leather sports seats, a twin-screen digital display, 20 inch alloys, and the ‘Active Parking Assist’ system, which will help you to steer your car into a tight spot.

And at the top of the scale, you’ll enjoy rear axle steering, the stunning Mercedes-Benz ‘Hyperscreen’ digital display with TV tuner, and the aromatic ‘Air Balance’ package, which infuses the cabin with an individual fragrance, which you can alter depending on your mood.

Prices begin at £90,560 to purchase outright.
