Skoda Kodiaq to the rescue!

If it’s good enough for the ambulance service, the versatile Skoda Kodiaq SUV should be good enough for you.

The Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust has been overhauling its fleet of Rapid Response Vehicles (RRVs).

Gone are the old Skoda Octavia ‘Scout’ models - with the Scouts being a vehicle that’s a more rugged, off-road-focused version of the regular Octavia and which was phased-out of the leasing market a couple of years ago.

And coming in to the fleet are 106 Kodiaqs - the largest SUV in the Skoda range.

The Trust says the Kodiaq’s load-lugging abilities were key in its decision-making process, with the SUV boasting a ‘spacious interior to carry life saving equipment’.

The Kodiaqs have also been specially fitted-out by Pressfab EVO Limited to carry a ‘comprehensive range of medical equipment and supplies to support frontline operations’.

Jeff Gott, Head of Fleet at Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust, says:

“The Kodiaq combines 4x4 capability, a smooth drive, reliability, and a large interior for our clinical staff and life-saving equipment. The new fleet replaces our outgoing Skoda Octavia Scout models, which proved to be an incredible workhorse that could consistently meet the 24/7 demands of being on the road. The first consignment of converted Kodiaqs has been delivered and some of the vehicles have been put into service; we’ve had very positive initial feedback from the teams running them.”

The outgoing Octavias covered an average of 90,000 miles each. And the Kodiaqs will also be expected to go the distance.

A spokesperson adds:

“The Trust covers an area of nearly 6,000 square miles, and in 2021-22 it responded to nearly 850,000 incidents, making its rapid response vehicles a vital resource when responding to the needs of patients in an emergency.”

So how might the Kodiaq support your own life?

The great thing about Skoda’s flagship SUV is that you can enjoy one with either five or seven seats. It’s the entry-level SE Drive trim level that has the option of five seats instead of seven - all of the trim levels above have a third row of seats from the get-go.

There’s a good selection of engines. And you can also enjoy an all-wheel drive powertrain, including with the base SE Drive trim.

There’s a 1.5 litre petrol mill, or a 2.0 litre diesel, both of which have power of 150 PS. That 1.5 litre engine might sound relatively small for such a large SUV, but ask those who’ve enjoyed a Skodiaq and they’ll reassure you that it’s still got more than enough pull.

Moving up the range, you can unlock a more powerful 2.0 litre petrol unit with 190 PS or a 2.0 litre diesel thumper with 200 PS.

And sitting at the very pinnacle of the Kodiaq range is the performance vRS model, which utilises a 2.0 litre TSI engine to produce power of 245 PS and which brings a 0-62mph acceleration time of 6.6 seconds

The Kodiaq is also really well specced as standard. That value for money is all part of the Skoda mantra.

Those entry-level SE Drive models come equipped with an 8 inch touchscreen with sat nav, 18 inch alloys, a rear view camera, and privacy glass.

You can also expect driver assistance and safety systems including front assist with autonomous emergency braking and an electronic parking brake.

You can lease a Skoda Kodiaq with Select Car Leasing from around £323 per month*.
