If you like your vehicles brimming with tech - and you also like to keep an eye on the bottom line - this new SKODA Scala ‘SE Technology’ - could represent something of a bargain.

And it could also be the perfect car for your business’s fleet needs, too.

In case you’re unfamiliar, the SKODA Scala was first introduced back in 2019, and quickly caught the attention.

A well-proportioned hatchback, it took on the Ford Focus, Kia Ceed, Hyundai i30 and Peugeot 308 while also undercutting most rivals in terms of cost.

That’s made it massively popular with a host of buyers, not least firms looking to populate fleets.

And now SKODA has introduced a new ‘SE Technology’ variant they hope will tempt even more customers to consider it as a company car.

A spokesperson reveals how the ‘new Scala version has a unique equipment list that has been fine-tuned by the brand to appeal specifically to fleet customers and business drivers, many of whom cover higher than average annual mileages.’

And adds: “As customers have come to expect from ŠKODA SE Technology models, the new Scala SE Technology is equipped with a host of features designed to make life on the road as relaxing, enjoyable and as safe as possible.”

Those features include, as standard, an Amundsen infotainment system with 9.2-inch touchscreen control and Care and Connect, SmartLink and a one year’s subscription to Infotainment online.

There’s front and rear parking sensors and cruise control as standard, along with rear LED lights with dynamic indicators.

And there are subtle exterior stylistic tweaks, too.

The SE Technology features upgraded 16 inch ‘Alaris’ alloy wheels, chrome window surrounds and improvements to the dashboard.

Yet despite all the additions, it won’t actually cost you much more than the SE model, according to SKODA.

The firm explains: “In keeping with other SE Technology models, the Scala delivers exceptional value for money.

“Based on the standard specification of the SE model, the SE Technology model is fitted with additional equipment with a value of £2,100. Despite this, the SE Technology model is priced at just £400 more than the SE.”

At present, the SE Technology is only available with one engine - a 1.5 TSI petrol that develops around 148 bhp and returns around 50 miles to the gallon.

But SKODA says further engines are due to be available later this year.

You can have the SE Technology as either a six-speed manual transmission or with a seven-speed DSG gearbox - the latter being equipped with Stop/Start technology and Active Cylinder Technology (ACT), which shuts off two of the four cylinders in the engine when you’re just bimbling around town, saving you fuel.

Meanwhile the Scala is practical, too, boasting 467 litres of boot space, which Skoda says is one of the ‘largest in the segment’.

Ordering for the new SE Technology opens from 24 August with first deliveries expected in September.

The 1.5 TSI 150PS model has a P11D value of £20,825 while the DSG version has a P11D value of £22,095.
