BMW announces exclusive X7 Dark Shadow Edition

In a nutshell - BMW X7 DARK SHADOW EDITION:

  • Exclusive new BMW X7 special edition.
  • Based on the top of the range M50i X7.
  • 500 being built for global distribution, just 10 coming to the UK
  • 530hp N63 Twin Power Turbo Eight-cylinder engine.
  • Customers now able to register their interest via a BMW Retailer.

Want an uber-exclusive alternative to the Mercedes-Benz GLS and Audi SQ8? Look no further than the new BMW X7 ‘Dark Shadow’ edition.

But if you do covet one, you’ll need to move sharpish - because just 500 examples of this super SUV are being built worldwide, and only 10 of them will be coming to the UK, putting potential owners in a very exclusive club.

The car itself is based on the top-spec X7, the M50i.

That means you get a 4.4 litre V8 petrol engine with 530 hp on tap, and which turns the X7 into a rocket ship. The first 0-62mph is dispatched in just 4.5 seconds while the speedometer keeps going until it reaches a governed top speed of 155mph.

But this car isn’t just about the performance, it’s about the way it looks. And that’s mean, moody and imposing.

The Dark Shadow is finished in metallic paint that’s brand new for a BMW X model - called ‘Frozen Arctic Grey’.

And that new coat is complemented by BMW’s ‘Individual High Gloss Shadow Line’ exterior finish, which gives the BMW kidney grille, Air Breathers and tailpipes a high-gloss black look.

A BMW press release points out: “This creates a subtle contrast to the matt shimmering body surfaces, also emphasised by the BMW Individual Roof Rail High Gloss Shadow Line and the sun protection glazing.”

Like the M50i, the X7 comes with 22 inch ‘M ‘light-alloy wheels in V-spoke design with a ‘Jet Black’ matt finish, as well as the throaty M sports exhaust system.

Meanwhile the interior has also been given the bling treatment above and beyond the M model.

Here you get full Merino leather in ‘Night Blue/Black’ with contrasting seams, ‘Night Blue’ Alcantara headlining and a Night Blue leather instrument panel.

There’s swathes of black Merino leather in the lower section of the instrument panel and on the front of the backrests.

Meanwhile neat touches to the centre console area also lets you know that this is a special edition, including a unique logo and ‘Piano Black’ finishing touches.

A BMW spokesperson adds: “On top of this, the UK specification BMW X7 Dark Shadow Edition comes as standard with a host of features, including Sun protection glazing, Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround sound system, Heat comfort pack and Panoramic glass roof Skylounge."

“Head up display, TV function plus, Rear seat entertainment professional and Massage functionality for the front seats are also included as standard.”

As you can imagine, while supply is limited demand will be high.

BMW is keen to make everyone aware that ‘customers detailed on the interest register will not be guaranteed a vehicle due to the limited production of this model’.

And it looks to cost around £115,000.
