New Mini Countryman Boardwalk Edition revealed

In a nutshell:

  • Outdoorsy new ‘Boardwalk Edition’ MINI Countryman revealed.
  • Comes loaded with equipment as standard, including rugged roof bars.
  • Can be had with a standard 1.5 litre petrol or i rapid Cooper S trim.
  • Available to order now - but limited to 325 units.

If you like your cars to have some rugged, outdoorsy charm, then you’re in luck - because MINI has just unveiled a new ‘Boardwalk Edition’ of its Countryman.

The small SUV crossover Countryman, first revealed by MINI a decade ago, is already a surprisingly practical family car.

Boot space stands at a hefty 450 litres, a good chunk larger than the 381 litres you get with the Volkswagen Golf.

Now the Countryman Boardwalk Edition has been revealed, and which adds more useful functionality - as well as tons of equipment - for those on the go.

You get black roof rails as well as a contrasting black roof, and the marketing pictures show the Countryman living the dream and ferrying surfboards down to the beach.

Meanwhile the Boardwalk Edition also comes with a unique paint job - ‘Deep Laguna Blue’, which was first introduced on the MINI Convertible Sidewalk Edition earlier this year.

The Boardwalk - which starts at £31,600 on the road - is also really well specced as standard.

Owners will enjoy 19” alloy wheels, an automatic tailgate, as well as LED headlights and rear lights as standard.

There’s also unique ‘Boardwalk’ logos generously plastered throughout, including on the car’s door entry strips, cockpit fascia and passenger side lower roof.

Step inside the cabin and it’s similarly plush.

You get a fully digital display cockpit, sat nav with a 8.8 inch touchscreen, automatic headlight activation, rain sensors, cruise control with brake function and Apple CarPlay.

In terms of other luxuries, there’s automatic air conditioning, heated seats, folding and auto-dimming mirrors, front and rear view camera, Park Assist and front park distance control.

And the Boardwalk also comes with the optional ‘MINI Excitement Pack’ as standard, which includes MINI logo projection, illuminated door handles and LED mood lighting.

In terms of power, you’ve got two choices.

You could opt for the standard 1.5 litre petrol with 136 hp, which returns around 45 miles to the gallon while emitting 144 g/km of CO2.

Or you could get the spicy Cooper S, which begins at £33,550.

Here you enjoy a 2.0 litre engine delivering 178hp and a 0-62mph time of 7.4 seconds - and where fuel economy is around 43 miles to the gallon and CO2 emissions stand at between 147 and 152 g/km.

Both of those engines can be specified with either Manual or Automatic transmission.

The only bad news is that only 325 Boardwalk Edition Countrymans will be on sale in the UK - meaning you might want to move fast to get your mitts on one.

They’re available to order now.
