Mazda celebrates 100 years with its new special edition models

In a nutshell:

  • To celebrate its 100th Anniversary, Mazda has revealed a range of special edition models.
  • Sports car fans will be lucky to get one of just 100 examples of the £29,995 100th Anniversary MX-5 Convertible.
  • Rarer still is a 100th anniversary Mazda2, with just five examples being built.
  • Each 100th Anniversary model will feature white paint and a burgundy interior, plus unique badges.
  • Contrasting ‘two-tone’ exterior/interior look inspired by the exterior of Mazda’s first car: the R360.

If you like Mazda’s brilliant MX-5, then you’ll want to get your mitts on one of these super-rare special editions, built to celebrate the firm’s 100th anniversary.

It’s not a stretch to say the capable convertible is universally loved, boasting all the fun of a Ferrari without the associated costs.

And now the remarkable roadster has been given a limited edition makeover - along with a host of other cars across the Mazda range - to mark 100 years of business for the Hiroshima-based company.

You’ll pay a premium for this incarnation of the MX-5, which costs £29,995.

That’s not insignificant when you realise the base SE-L version of the roadster starts at just £23,800.

But what you do get is the prestige - and future sell-on value - of knowing there’s just 100 of these MX-5’s arriving in the UK.

And you also get to enjoy the unique white-and-burgundy two-tone exterior/interior combination, inspired by high-grade versions of Mazda’s first ever passenger car - the Mazda R360 Coupe, which launched in 1960.

All of the Anniversary MX-5 Convertibles available are powered by the 184bhp 2.0-litre engine, and join the 1.5-litre R-Sport in the limited-edition MX-5 range in the UK.

And there are other nice touches, too, as Mazda reveals: “This includes the unique 100th Anniversary badge featuring on the burgundy floormats, on the key fob and embossed into the headrests.

“Externally, the same badge is on the wheel centres and the side of the car. Additionally, the 100th Anniversary MX-5 Convertible features a Dark Cherry fabric roof.”

The 100th Anniversary Special Edition Mazda3 costs £29,995 and is powered by the 180ps Skyactiv-X engine. Again, just 100 examples of this car will be sold in the UK.

The £31,695 100th Anniversary Mazda CX-30 shares the same Spark Controlled Compression Ignition SPCCI Skyactiv-X engine - and the rarity of just 100 cars being sold in the UK.

Even more rare, just five examples of the £20,995 Mazda2 and £33,995 Mazda6 100th Anniversary will be offered in the UK later in the year, while five examples of the 100th Anniversary Mazda CX-5 will arrive by the end of 2020.

Commenting on the 100th Anniversary Special Editions, Mazda UK Managing Director, Jeremy Thomson, said: “ Mazda Corporation has created these special models as a token of appreciation for the customers who have supported Mazda through the years. We’ll be proud to have special versions of the MX-5 Convertible, CX-30 and Mazda3 in our UK showrooms later this year.

“UK buyers have always loved special edition MX-5s so I’m sure that with its distinctive cherry roof and burgundy interior, the 100th Anniversary Special Edition Convertible will be very popular, while the first opportunity to have distinctive limited-edition versions of our latest cars: the Mazda3 and Mazda CX-30 is equally exciting”.
