If you still need convincing about switching to an electric car, check out the winners of this week’s Autocar Awards - where no less than four EVs took home coveted 'Best' gongs after being praised by critics.
Those plug-in cars to take home prizes were the nippy Fiat 500, the high-tech Tesla Model 3, the super-sleek Kia EV6 and the much-lauded Skoda Enyaq iV - the latter of which has already got a trophy cabinet that’s full-to-bursting.
The Fiat 500 scooped the ‘Best Small Car’ award - and with styling that’s somehow retro yet thoroughly modern, as well as an electric range running up to 199 miles between charges, it’s not hard to see why lease customers love them.
Mark Tisshaw, Autocar’s editor, said:
“The 500 shows the direction for all small electric cars. Our roads aren’t getting any wider, and the 500’s dimensions are as useful on Turin’s streets as they are down an English country lane. The battery in the floor has banished any top-heaviness, and the stiff suspension, pointy steering and impressive lateral grip give the responses a keen driver wants.”
If you’ve got your eye on a Fiat 500, you can currently pick one up from us for around £161 per month via our special offers pages.
The Tesla Model 3 was named ‘Best Company Car’ while the stunning Kia EV6 walked away clutching the ‘Best Electric Car’ silverware.
For the EV6, it’s just the latest in a long line of accolades, which includes having won the ‘Car of the Year’ honour at the 2022 What Car? Awards.
Autocar’s Mark Tisshaw adds:
“With the EV6, Kia has eclipsed its natural rivals, and the car goes further than most rivals to make everyday motoring feel special.”
Speaking about ‘going further’, the EV6 has a range of up to 328 miles on a single charge and also supports ultra-fast 800V battery replenishment as standard.
Elsewhere the Skoda Enyaq iV was named ‘Best Family Car’, coming as it does with a range of up to 329 miles as well as a huge 585 litre boot.
Tisshaw reveals:
“The Enyaq iV has been designed by people who understand the way the world works. Its interior is a match for anything at the same level, and it’s roomy, cleverly thought-out and ergonomically sensible.”
Also bear in mind that there’s a sporty vRS coupe version of the Enyaq iV, which boasts power of 299 PS and max torque of 460 Nm.
Elsewhere at the Autocar Awards, BMW was named ‘Best Manufacturer’, the Land Rover Defender is the ‘Best SUV’ and the Toyota GR86 is the ‘Best Fun Car’.
There were also slightly more quirky awards, with the utterly-gorgeous Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio scooping the ‘Future Classics’ prize - which is a ‘readers champion’ nod to greatness.
Damien Dally, Managing Director of Alfa Romeo UK, said:
“The Giulia Quadrifoglio is a true embodiment of Alfa Romeo’s DNA; it’s beautiful, wonderful to drive and has blistering performance – I’m excited for all the people who get to enjoy this car over the next 50 years too!”
