Classic Grille Evenings heading to National Motor Museum

Barbecue and brake horsepower - always a winning combo for the discerning petrolhead.

And you can enjoy both thanks to some midweek events taking place at the National Motor Museum over the next couple of months.

In case you’re not already acquainted, the National Motor Museum is located on the south eastern edge of the New Forest national park in Hampshire, between Southampton and Bournemouth.

It’s home to more than 250 historic vehicles, including land speed record pioneers and four-wheeled stars of the big and small screen.

And this summer the Museum will play host to ‘Classic Grille evenings’ where you can chow-down on some tasty BBQ food while also feasting your eyes on some mouth-watering cars and bikes.

Tickets to the Grille Evenings are FREE - with kids and families absolutely welcomed - and you can pay an extra tenner to gain access to the Museum itself if you’re an adult. Kids get free entry to the museum.

The next event takes place Wednesday 20th July, where one particular motorbike take centre stage.

The late, great Mike Hailwood is considered one of the greatest British motorcycle racers of all time - a man who enjoyed 14 victories at the Isle of Man TT and who also competed in Formula One.

And Hailwood’s legendary 1961, TT-winning 250cc 4-cylinder Honda RC162 won’t just be on display, it’ll also be started-up so that you can hear a noise to ‘make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up with excitement’, says the Museum.

On Wednesday 24th August, another Classic Grille evening will see a 1920, 350 hp Sunbeam fired-up. The Sunbeam is described as ‘one of the most significant Land Speed Record cars’, holding the title on three occasions and ultimately clocking a speed of 150.76 mph.

Boasting a colossal 18 litre, V12 engine, it’s sure to make an enjoyable racket.

National Motor Museum Trust Chief Executive Dr Jon Murden said:

“As part of a range of events to mark the 50th anniversary of the opening of the National Motor Museum in 1972, I’m delighted that we are introducing our new Classic Grille nights.
“The atmosphere inside the Museum is totally different and quite magical in the evening, and we wanted to be able to share that with people in a way that hasn’t been possible before.
“Combined with the potential to take your own classic car or bike on a run to the Museum through the stunning New Forest, something tasty to eat from our BBQ, and witnessing some amazing historic vehicle start-ups, we think Classic Grille will appeal to a wide range of enthusiasts – especially those who’ve maybe never had the chance to visit the National Motor Museum before.”

On each of the evenings, the Brabazon restaurant will be open, along with a ‘Pit Stop BBQ’, with delicious barbeque snacks and hot and cold drinks on offer.

Capacity for the event is limited, so book your free ticket for the evening now

Upgrade tickets for entry for the National Motor Museum, which must be purchased at the event, cost £10 per adult (children are admitted for free).

The rest of the Beaulieu attraction will not be open for these events.
