About the BMW M2

Now in its second generation, the M2 first launched in 2016 as one of the purest driver’s cars in the entire BMW stable, being agile, powerful, perfectly balanced, and deeply connected to the firm’s motorsports heritage.

Honed by BMW M engineers at Germany’s infamous Nurburgring race circuit, the BMW M2 is rear-wheel drive only (there’s no all-wheel drive option), a fact that makes it so rewarding for enthusiasts.

The option of a six-speed manual gearbox is another big plus point for lease customers who want to rediscover the thrill of driving.

Meanwhile the BMW M2 is also a practical and comfortable daily driver, with usable rear seats and a practical 390-litre boot.

Why lease the BMW M2?

If you’re looking for old-school thrills in a thoroughly modern package, a BMW M2 lease could fit the bill perfectly.

There are two distinct M2 models. The BMW M2 Coupe boasts power of 480hp, while the BMW M2 CS (aka ‘Competition Sport’) ups the power to 530hp while being capable of accelerating from 0-62 mph in 3.8 seconds.

Both the M2 Coupe and M2 CS share styling that’s truly unique when it comes to other BMW M cars, with their rectangular, squared-off front ends and pronounced side sills really catching the eye.

The BMW M2 isn’t to be confused with lesser-powered, performance variants of the regular BMW 2 Series (the BMW M240i xDrive).

The lightweight BMW M2 CS is more powerful than the regular BMW M2 (at 530hp compared with 480hp) and features new engine mounts, lowered suspension (by 8mm), and bespoke springs, dampers and chassis control system. It features a matte black front splitter, carbon fibre boot lid and ducktail rear spoiler. The cabin comes with heated bucket seats and M Alcantara three-spoke steering wheel.

BMW M2 & M2 CS – Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

The BMW M2 is a high-performance compact coupe powered by a twin-turbo 3.0-litre inline-six producing around 480 horsepower. It’s exclusively available with rear-wheel drive and gives lease customers the option of a 6-speed manual transmission. The BMW M2 can also be used as a comfortable daily driver.

The BMW M2 CS is more track-focused than the regular M2. There’s more power (530hp) as well as lighter carbon fibre components, sharper suspension tuning, and exclusive performance design cues. The BMW M2 CS also sits 8mm lower than the standard M2.

Yes, as a purist and driver’s car, the BMW M2 is still offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox, making it one of the few modern sports cars to do so. This transmission provides a more connected and analog driving experience. An 8-speed automatic gearbox is also available.

The BMW M2 CS, however, is only offered with BMW’s 8-speed M Steptronic automatic, which should translate to quicker lap times and more effective power delivery.

BMW M2: 0–62mph in 4.2 seconds (depending on transmission).

BMW M2 CS: 0–62 mph in around 3.8 seconds.

Both models have an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph, which can be increased to 177 mph with the optional M Driver’s Package.

Yes, the BMW M2 strikes a balance between performance and comfort. It offers adaptive suspension, modern infotainment, and usable rear seats, making it suitable for both spirited drives and daily commutes.

The M2 CS is slightly more hardcore, with a firmer suspension, louder exhaust, and reduced insulation for weight savings. Still, it remains road-legal and surprisingly manageable.

The BMW M2 is relatively unique in the lease market due to its rear-wheel drive layout and option of a manual gearbox. However, some other performance alternatives include the Porsche 718 Cayman, Audi RS3, Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 S, and the rear-wheel drive Ford Mustang
