Suzuki introduces new Jimny van

The Suzuki Jimny has just become even more versatile - as it’s now available as a two-seat van.

When the Jimny was overhauled back in 2018 it’s fair to say the result was something of a revelation.

The Japanese firm absolutely nailed the styling, with the little Jimny even giving the A-list Mercedes-Benz G Class a run for its money in the design stakes.

The rugged 4x4 proved so popular there were shortages in the UK as global demand utterly outstripped supply. Despite all of this, the Jimny was axed from the Suzuki line-up last year - much to everyone’s dismay - after it fell foul of Europe’s latest emissions regulations. A mark of how sadly the Jimny is missed is that used 2020 models are now selling for £10,000 more than their original asking price on trading websites.

But the good news is that the Jimny is being revived... as a van, at least. And if you’re in the market for a go-anywhere, compact light commercial vehicle, the Jimny LCV could be just the ticket.

Here the rear seats have been stripped away to reveal a 863 litre load area compartment with a flat floor and safety cargo partition. The off-road prowess of the regular passenger car is continued with the Jimny LCV.

A Suzuki spokesperson says:

“The light commercial vehicle model features the same authentic, uncompromising off-roading performance desired by professionals as the passenger vehicle model with key essentials – a ladder frame, the three angles, 3-link rigid axle suspension and ALLGRIP PRO 4WD.”

There’s just one trim level up for grabs - which includes goodies like air conditioning, DAB radio, Dual Sensor Brake Support, which employs the automatic brake to help avoid a collision, 15-inch Black steel wheels, cruise control with speed limiter, and 4x4 with a low transfer gear.

There’s also a host of advanced safety features, too.

They include hill hold and descent control that support driving on slopes as well as ‘eCall’, an emergency messaging function following a collision.

Powering the popular lightweight off-roader is 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, which produces 101 bhp and 130 Nm of torque, and which will return around 35 miles to the gallon.

A Suzuki spokesperson adds:

“Suzuki has now introduced a new two-seater Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) version of its small and lightweight off-roader, the Jimny.
“Since its global launch in 2018, the car model has attracted both private users and professionals who seek authentic off-road performance. The new LCV model will be available in very limited numbers in the UK in 2021.”

Hakan at select was so helpful. He did everything to find me the car I wanted at a good price. He was also really helpful once my car had been ordered, chasing the dealer for a date and making sure everything was running smoothly. Very personable and nothing ever seemed too much trouble.
