Bury St Edmunds’ Select Car Leasing has announced a new partnership with local football club Sporting 87.
Select Car Leasing is one of the UK’s largest independent specialists for car and van leasing, with offices across the UK.
And the Bury St Edmunds office of Select has launched a long-term sponsorship of Sporting 87, including First Team dug-out, as well as taking-out pitchside advertising and Matchday promotions.
Select Car Leasing’s Principal of Bury St Edmunds, Alan Beckett, located at Risby Business Park, recently visited Sporting 87’s Victory Ground to watch the side’s 5-1 against Trimley Red Devils in Round 1 of the Suffolk Senior Cup.
It was Sporting 87’s first ever appearance in the competition, with captain Jarrod Lebbon scoring a spectacular goal from the half-way line! This was also witnessed by the Chief Executive of the Suffolk FA, Richard Neal who brought with him the Trophy for the Suffolk Senior Cup which dates back to 1888.
And Mr Beckett says he’s delighted to partner with a football club that’s so passionate about inclusivity and sport for all.
He says:

“I got to know about Sporting 87 through leasing vehicles to members of the club.
“And the more I learned about Sporting 87, the more I began to respect and admire the club’s entire ethos - which is one of providing opportunities and experiences for everyone, no matter their age and ability.
“Sporting 87 has exciting ambitions to grow as a football club, as they seek further promotions up the league pyramid. They’ve also made a brilliant start to the current season.
“There’s so much more to come - and Select Car Leasing Bury St Edmunds wants to play a role in that journey, helping them as much as we can.”
First Team Manager Jonathan Warnock has thanked Select for its contribution.
Writing in the matchday programme, Warnock said:
“Sporting are also grateful to Alan Beckett at Select Car Leasing in Bury St Edmunds for their tremendous support this season, sponsoring the new dugouts, perimeter fencing advertising, and sponsoring this afternoon’s game.”
Sporting 87 currently has more than 600 children and 100 adults enjoying football on a weekly basis, with participant ages ranging from ‘3 to 73’, according to the club.
The teams - male and female - cover all abilities and even include walking football.
Sporting 87 Football Club has three adult teams playing in the Macron Suffolk and Ipswich League (SIL).
The First Team play in the Suffolk and Ipswich League Senior Division - at ‘Level 11’ in the English football league pyramid and six promotions away from the National League - and are run by Sporting 87's Director of Football, Jonathan Warnock, and his assistant, Neil Van Holland.
Select Car Leasing Bury St Edmunds was launched in 2020.
Prior to that, in 2001, Alan Beckett and fellow director Tony Davis had established ‘Genus Leasing’ to provide cars and vans to both businesses and personal customers.
Over the course of two decades, Genus grew from a small office attached to the side of Tony’s house, to becoming a regional Appointed Representative of Select Car Leasing, with a key emphasis on providing a high level of service that creates clients for life.
