Polestar 5 teased - and will boast power of 884 hp

Swedish manufacturer Polestar is showing-off its ‘5’ prototype at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this week.

And it has now been revealed that the all-electric GT will have incredible power of 884 hp - which is right up there with the Tesla Model S and accelerates past the range-topping Porsche Taycan Turbo S.

We’ve known about the Polestar 5 for a while now, with the last glimpse coming back in November last year.

We already knew that the Polestar 5 would be one of the most environmentally-friendly electric vehicles ever conceived, with an interior made with recycled PET (polyethylene terephthalate) bottles, reclaimed fishing nets and recycled cork vinyl.

Now Polestar has revealed what will be powering the 5 - cutting-edge 800v, dual-motor architecture that translates to 884hp and 900 Nm of torque.

As a comparison, the most powerful Audi e-tron RS GT has power of 631 hp. And that’s a rapid car.

Jörg Brandscheid, Polestar’s CTO and Head of R&D, says:

“The new powertrain we are working on will set a new brand benchmark in our high-performing cars. Combining strong electric motor engineering ability with advances in light-weight platform technology is leading to truly stunning driver’s cars.”

How fast can the Polestar 5 sprint?

There’s no official stats just yet but you can expect it to obliterate the 2.8 second 0-62mph acceleration time the Porsche Taycan Turbo S can achieve.

Meanwhile there are two other Polestar cars on the way - the Polestar 3 and Polestar 4 SUVs. The Polestar 3 is due to go on sale in October of this year while the 4 is slated for a 2023 launch.

Thomas Ingenlath, Polestar CEO, comments:

“Polestar 5 is a company-defining project. Its progressive design and advanced engineering set the tone for Polestar’s future. We have great talent on board enabling us to create truly iconic EVs.”
