Fiat has dusted-off its finest retro styling for an upcoming urban electric vehicle - called the Topolino.
That ‘Topolino’ name is a famous one indeed.
It’s the Italian word for ‘little mouse’, and it was an affectionate moniker first given to the original Fiat 500 built back in the 1930s.
The original Topolino (below), produced until the mid-1950s, didn’t have an awful lot of power, making around 15 hp.
And, funnily, enough, the new Topolino might have even LESS oomph.
It’ll be based on the Citroen Ami two-seat quadricycle, with both Citroen and Fiat sharing the same parent company in the form of Stellantis.
The Ami has power of just 8 hp, courtesy of a 5.5 kWh battery, which gives it a top speed of around 30 mph and a range of up to 47 miles between charges.
Fiat says its Topolino represents ‘the cutest way to electrify cities’ while encapsulating the ‘coolness of the Fiat 500’.

A Fiat spokesperson tells us: “The new Topolino perfectly embodies Fiat’s dolce vita and Italian spirit. As a car that aims to bring a smile, the Topolino brings a new conception of the dolce vita to the city streets, one which is made up of joy, optimism, and fun. The new quadricycle is a new electric mobility device which has been designed for a wide audience, including the youngest customers, families and city lovers.”
Fiat also says the Topolino is on a ‘democratic mission’ to provide ‘urban sustainable mobility solutions which are accessible to everyone’.
And a spokesperson adds: “It will make young people fall in love with cars again.”
Whether or not that happens remains to be seen, with further details about the Topolino set to be revealed later this year.
If the idea of an electric quadricycle doesn’t appeal, you can lease the all-electric Fiat 500 (above) from around £364 per month*.
