BMW have announced the latest addition to their range and, yes, it’s a new 5 Series with a whole host of technologies to improve the vehicles driving experience!

What is new 2017 BMW 5 Series?

The new edition of the 5 Series shares many parts and its design with its big brother 7 series luxury car. The new version is 36mm longer, 6mm wider and 137 pounds lighter than its outgoing 5 Series model; also slight larger than its competitor the Mercedes E-Class.

It also bringing more space, greater efficiency, more advanced technology making it the most advanced 5 Series model yet. The new model is 137pounds lighter which is due to its exterior body design featuring lots of aluminium, magnesium and high strength steels.

What are the new changes and features?

Looks wise, the new 5 Series features ‘full-width’ headlights and larger kidney grills borrowed from the 7 Series. Adaptive LED Lights alter the light graphic and can work as an option with BMW selective beam, anti-dazzle high beam with an illumination range up to 500 metres.

BMW are offering more space inside for the driver and passenger with an increased boot capacity of 530 litres. Overall space for the passenger has also improved including knee, shoulder and legroom.

It also features BMW’s very latest iDrive system (premiered in the 7 series last year) it comes with gesture controls, coupled with autonomous driving and even remote control parking using the digital key. Professional navigation, entertainment features, telephone can be visualised on the stand. A standard 10.25 inch screen allows you to visualise the navigation system, entertainment features, telephone and voice commands.

The M Sport version models come with sports seats and adjustable side bolsters for optimum lateral support. There are two non-metallic and 11 metallic colour shades that are available along with a total of 9 different light alloy wheels sizing from 17 to 20 inches.

Brief list of features:

  • Remote control parking – An optional package available enabling automated parking with surround view and remote 3D view for peace for mind manoeuvring.
  • With inductive charging, mobile phones can charge wirelessly.
  • BMW has become the first car maker offering Microsoft Office 365 by way of a secure server connection for accessing emails, contacts and using calendars.
  • Priority warning system provides visual and audible warning if the driver has failed to notice the presence of other vehicles.
  • Other technology features a head up display, adaptive cruise control, assisted driving modes and an optional Wi-Fi hotspot.

Engines

For the first time ever, BMW has come up with hybrid version of the 5 Series called a 530e plug-in hybrid comprising of a 2.0 litre four-cylinder petrol engine and electric motor & claiming mileage capable of 141.2mpg and CO2 emissions of just 46g/km. It can also reach a top speed of 87mph in all-electric and has an electric range up to 28 miles.

The rest of the engine range contains a four-cylinder two petrol and four diesel engines including the 520d which has a fuel economy of above 60 mpg. The xDrive versions are also available for those who looking for more power & improved control.
