Motorists of a certain vintage will have fond memories of the original Renault 4, which made its debut way back in the 1960s before becoming one of the best-selling French cars of all time.
The Renault 4 has now been reinvented as a fully-electric hatchback-SUV crossover.
And while the design of the battery-powered R4 is thoroughly modern, the styling is also sympathetically retro and full of nostalgic nods to the car’s predecessor.
While the Renault 4 shares the same ‘AmpR Small’ electric platform as the more compact Renault 5, it’ll be better suited to those looking to lease a family car.
The Renault 4 is easy on the eye, coming with an illuminated front grille, three-part rear lights, and elongated bonnet lines that wrap around the front headlights.

A 52 kWh ‘Comfort Range’ battery provides power of 150 hp, 245 Nm of torque, and a driving range of up to 247 miles between charges. Acceleration from 0-62 mph will go by in a sprightly 8.2 seconds. Rapid 100 kW DC charging lets you replenish the energy in the battery from 15-80% in around 30 minutes while 11 kW AC charging will take around 4 hours 51 minutes.
The entry-level Evolution grade features 18-inch black alloys, keyless entry, dual-zone climate control, grey quilted textile upholstery, a 10-inch ‘OpenR Link’ central touchscreen multimedia system, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, 7-inch digital driver information display, rear parking sensors, and a rear view camera.
The mid-range Techno grade adds roof rails, an infotainment system with Google services built in, wireless phone charging, a larger 10-inch driver display, front, rear and side parking sensors, four different drive modes including ‘Sport’ and ‘Eco’, ambient lighting, synthetic leather upholstery, leather steering wheel, and a fabric dash. The Techno level also features adaptive cruise control, hands-free parking and Vehicle to Load (V2L) skills.
