Mini Lease

The word ‘iconic’ probably doesn’t do MINI justice - because not only is the original Mini one of the most influential vehicles of all time, the cars currently available are the result of a continual evolution to ensure they’re still as cutting edge as ever before.

The first Minis rolled off the production line in the late 1950s, then built by the British Motor Corporation, and it’s a car that was produced by various firms until 2000. A brief hiatus followed before the loveable hatchback was reintroduced by German automotive company BMW, who remain purveyors of the MINI today.

And while some of the models may be small, they pack one hell of a punch. If performance is what you crave from your lease vehicle, take a look at the Cooper S or John Cooper Works variants, which offer trademark go-kart handling and power of up to 306 HP.

A MINI lease gives you a wide range of options in terms of the practicality you need. Alongside the MINI Convertible or the classic Hatchback you’ll find the Clubman estate and the Countryman SUV crossover, the latter of which has a boot that’s almost as large as the one that comes with the Nissan Qashqai. There’s also a plug-in hybrid variant of the Countryman which recently scooped the ‘Best used hybrid small SUV’ at the What Car? Awards 2021.

A recent introduction to the MINI range is the excellent MINI Electric, which offers around 145 miles of range between charges, a rapid acceleration time of 0-62mph in just 7.3 seconds and zero driving emissions. That lack of CO2 production could come in handy if you’re a business lease customer looking to reduce your Benefit in Kind (BIK) tax bill.

Mini Frequently Asked Questions

With go-kart handling, retro styling, German engineering and an all-round package guaranteed to put a smile on your face, leasing a Mini should be a heap of fun. But it’s important not to pigeonhole Mini, a brand that has been part of the BMW group since 2000. Because there’s so much more to enjoy than just the three or five-door Mini hatchback. The more spacious Mini Clubman and Countryman can be had with all-wheel-drive and perform perhaps surprisingly well off-road. The Mini Electric has a range of up to 145 miles between charges. While the range of Mini John Cooper Works hot-hatches up for grabs will delight your inner petrolhead.

When it comes to popular Mini models, you can’t look much further than the three and five door hatchbacks. The base Mini Cooper offers power of 136 hp and decent fuel economy, while the Mini Cooper S uses a powerful 2.0 litre engine to whip you along at pace. The MIni Countryman is also a popular choice, being a Mini that’s not really ‘mini’ at all. The compact SUVhas good legroom in the rear for adults and also boasts a practical 450 litre boot, which isn’t too far away from the luggage space offered in a Nissan Qashqai.

That BMW know-how has paid off - the Mini is an exceptionally safe manufacturer to lease. The Mini Countryman recently received the full five stars from Euro NCAP, the industry standard safety assessment body. And what’s reassuring here is the amount of driver assistance and safety kit you get as standard, even with entry-level models. The base Countryman - which can also be had as a plug-in hybrid - comes with cruise control, rear parking sensors, and Mini’s ‘Emergency Call’ system, which automatically sends a distress call to the BMW Group Call Centre should you have a nasty prang.

The most affordable Mini to lease is the three-door Cooper hatchback in ‘Classic’ trim - and it’s a great alternative to cars like the Audi A1, the Volkswagen Polo or the Ford Fiesta. And while it’s affordable, it’s also still really well specced compared with rivals. The base ‘Classic’ Cooper gets heated front seats, ambient lighting, rear parking sensors, cruise control and full phone integration.

When you think ‘Mini’, your mind might automatically jump to the classic three-door hatchback. But there are so many other Minis available in the modern range, from the spacious Countryman SUV to the highly desirable, and high-performance, ‘John Cooper Works’ range - a trim level available with the Hatch, Convertible, Countryman and Clubman estate. In terms of affordability, the base ‘Classic’ hatch is in the same monthly lease price bracket as the Volkswagen Polo, Ford Fiesta, Vauxhall Corsa, and Nissan Juke.

If you’re looking for alternative brands to Mini, you’re looking for ones guaranteed to put a smile on your face. Check out manufacturers like Abarth and Cupra, as well as Volkswagen, Ford and Suzuki.
