And that’s where the Ford Tourneo Custom comes in - an MPV or 'multi activity vehicle' with room for up to nine occupants. A rival to the Volkswagen Multivan and the Mercedes-Benz V Class, the Tourneo Custom comes in two wheelbase sizes, L1 and L2, and the great news is that the interior boasts plenty of seating and luggage configurations.
The reversible second row seats allow you to create a ‘conference’ style layout, should you wish, and depending on which version you opt for, you can also enjoy three full-sized seats on the third row, too.
Even with all the seats in place, a cavernous boot will swallow up 1,200 litres of luggage with the L1 version and up to 1,900 litres in the long wheelbase variant.
Ford says that with the Tourneo Custom lease customers can ‘sit back, relax and enjoy the ride’, and there’s plenty of kit available to help you do just that.
Driver assistance technology includes a blind spot information system, intelligent speed assist, traffic sign recognition, cross traffic alert and adaptive cruise control.
The electric Ford E-Tourneo Custom joined the line-up in 2024, arriving with a 202-mile range, rapid 125 kW DC charging capabilities, and a 2,000 kg towing capacity.
And while the Tourneo Custom is available with a traditional 2.0 litre, 170 PS diesel engine, there are also mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains available, too. The PHEV model is particularly eye-catching as it delivers a zero-emissions, electric-only driving range of up to 33 miles.
If you’re a company lease customer, that latter figure is important, because it means the 227 PS Tourneo Custom PHEV attracts a low Benefit in Kind (BIK) tax rate. The battery, meanwhile, can also be recharged using most AC network charging points.
Another variant well worth a look is the ‘Active’ model, which features more rugged styling, roof rails, a signature grille, and the option of a mechanical Limited-Slip Differential for more grip.
