The original iX3 was first launched in 2021, when it was unveiled as an electric variant of the traditionally-fuelled BMW X3.
The new BMW iX3, however, is a different beast entirely.
It has been developed as a new vehicle from the ground up and also wears BMW’s much-heralded ‘Neue Klasse’ design language.
That means sleek, minimalist styling throughout as well as an eye-catching, vertically-arranged kidney grille that pays homage to BMW styling from the 1960s.
The iX3’s appeal also goes way beyond skin deep, as it combines power and performance with the ability to travel further than any other electric SUV in the market.
Already a ‘Car of the Year’ winner before it had even reached UK forecourts, the BMW iX3 is a seriously impressive electric SUV.
Capable of travelling around 500 miles on a single charge, the iX3 sets the benchmark for all other EVs to reach.
Sophisticated 800-volt electric architecture enables a maximum charging rate of 400 kW - enough to add up to 231 miles of range in just ten minutes, while charging from 10 to 80 per cent takes just 21 minutes.
Meanwhile four powerful onboard computers - BMW’s so-called ‘superbrains’ - control driving dynamics, the level of automation, the infotainment system and comfort functions, for a more precise, responsive and serene driving experience.
Base models come loaded with the BMW ‘Panoramic iDrive’ (digital interface projecting information across the windscreen and supported by the latest Operating System X), wireless charging, heated front seats, the BMW ‘Driving Assistant Plus’ tech (which automates braking and acceleration while keeping you centered in your lane), and an automatic tailgate.
The M Sport grade adds more aggressive M Sport styling, unique 20-inch alloys, a sports steering wheel, and M Sport brakes with dark blue calipers.

The latest BMW iX3 is equipped with a 108 kWh battery that unlocks a range of up to 500 miles on a single charge, depending on conditions and usage. Simply put, the BMW iX3 is capable of travelling further than virtually all other EVs on the market. The iX3’s new cylindrical-cell battery pack is said to offer 20% better energy density than BMW’s prior generation cells. The battery is also integrated into the vehicle’s structure, helping reduce weight and improve rigidity, which improves handling.
The BMW iX3 is underpinned by state-of-the-art 800-volt electric architecture that supports rapid charging at speeds up to 400 kW, where available. A recharge from 10-80 per cent can take just 21 minutes while you can also add up to 231 miles of range in just ten minutes. When charging at home, 11 kW AC capabilities can take the battery from flat to full in around 11 hours.
The BMW iX3 is exceptionally quick for the class. Power of 469 PS is combined with a dual-motor set up and all-wheel drive to deliver acceleration from 0-62 mph in just 4.9 seconds, which is quicker than the all-wheel drive Porsche Macan 4 Electric.
The BMW iX3 has a boot that measures 520 litres, which is similar in size to the Audi Q6 e-tron SUV but which falls slightly short of the 540 litres offered with the Porsche Macan Electric. Besides the boot, there’s an additional front trunk for extra storage. Generous amounts of knee and headroom in the rear mean the iX3 can easily accommodate adults, even on long journeys.
The latest iX3 is described by BMW as a ‘Software-Defined Vehicle’ with powerful computing power and four dedicated ‘superbrains’. One of those is the ‘Heart of Joy’ module, which controls handling and power delivery and promises more precise and responsive driving while harvesting additional energy through regenerative braking.
The cabin features a full-width ‘Panoramic iDrive’ display which incorporates a 17.9-inch centre touchscreen and which can project information onto the windscreen. All models also feature the BMW ‘Driving Assistant Plus’ package, which offers improved adaptive cruise, motorway assist, and other semi-automated driving features.
