Nissan has exhumed the Interstar name once again in 2022 for its larger commercial van-based vehicles. After a ten-year break, it replaces the NV400 designation. Other than the name, little else has changed beyond the NV400’s 2020 updates.

Nissan’s ‘all-star’ van range in the UK is headed by the Interstar, above the Primastar medium van and Townstar small van. The Interstar is available in several formats, from panel van and crew van to box, tipper, dropside and other conversion configurations.
The Interstar dropside specification is more versatile than its tipper sibling, offering single-cab as well as double-cab seven-seater models, though it does without the lifting deck. Payload weights range upwards from 877kg for the longest double cab version to 1,426kg for a short wheelbase single cab model. For cabin occupants, the Interstar carries over updates from 2020, with lots of convenient storage and a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring. The driver’s seat comes with an adjustable tilt, lumbar support and headrest, with a folding centre armrest.
There’s an impressive suite of driver assistance systems available on the Interstar too. Nissan Intelligent Mobility safety features include Front Park Assist, Blind Spot Warning and Side Wind Assist and Lane Departure Alert. There are also automatic wipers and lights, Rear Park Assist, rearview camera and Hill Start Assist, although not all equipment is fitted to every grade so do check.
The Interstar is available with a range of 2.3-litre diesel engines with power ranging from 110hp to 180hp, though there’s no dual-clutch transmission like in the Primastar. Efficiency varies across the Interstar formats but 39-42mpg is listed as an average, though higher payloads will likely bring that down.
