With its 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine, the forthcoming Ford Ranger Raptor will be a monster on UK roads, at least until Hennessey brings its VelociRaptor 6x6 across the Atlantic.
The Texas-based hypercar manufacturer has taken the latest Ford F-150 Raptor — already a vehicle that would swamp UK roads — and transformed it into a go-anywhere, six-wheel drive pickup.
Significantly longer than the F-150 Raptor it’s based on, the VelociRaptor 6x6 extension allows the load bed length to be increased to 2.4 metres — that’s 50% bigger than a Ford Ranger’s load bay. Hennessey has also raised the VelociRaptor significantly, thanks to a near-8cm list and upgraded 20-inch alloy wheels capable of taking 37-inch tyres.
Modifications made to the F-150 while creating the Hennessey VelociRaptor 6x6 go beyond simply extending the body and adding a third pair of wheels. Engineers have equipped the truck with Fox suspension and dual locking rear axles, providing 50% more traction. The firm has also upgraded the twin-turbo 3.5-litre V6 powertrain with enhanced air induction, a high-capacity intercooler with blow-off valve, and an upgraded engine management system. The result is an output of 565hp and a mammoth 911Nm of torque.

Prices in the US start from $400,000 (£350,000), which includes a new Ford F-150 Raptor donor vehicle. Importing one into the UK will add significantly to that price, with shipping, import duty and VAT all chargeable.
