The PHEV Transit Connect also loses little on its diesel sibling when it comes to payload, load space and towing capacity.
The base engine of the Ford Transit Connect is a 2.0-litre EcoBlue diesel unit that's available with power of either 102 PS or 122 PS and which can be mated to either a 6-speed manual or 7-speed automatic transmission.
The plug-in hybrid powertrain combines a 1.5-litre EcoBoost petrol engine with a 19.7 kWh battery to produce power of 150 PS and, crucially, an EV driving range of up to 72 miles.
Short wheelbase variants of the Ford Transit Connect have a max load space of 3.1 m3 while the long wheelbase models increase the load capacity to 3.7 cubic metres - enough for two Euro pallets.
Most versions of the Ford Transit Connect can tow up to 1,500 kg (braked). Some PHEV and FlexCab (5-seat) versions are rated slightly lower, at around 1,400 kg.
