Say hello to the hardest working van in the UK - the Ford Transit Custom.
The latest industry figures show the Transit Custom is the best-selling light commercial vehicle of the year, with 13,912 registrations to date so far.
That eclipses the nearest LCV rival, the regular Ford Transit, which has had around 8,500 registrations.
And it also means the Ford Transit Custom isn’t just the most popular van, it’s one of the most popular vehicles in Britain, full stop, as it’s currently placed second in the overall top 10 list between the leading Vauxhall Corsa and the Nissan Qashqai.
These are impressive stats for the Transit Custom, which sits in the Ford range between the full fat Transit and the smaller Transit Connect.
So what’s to love about it?
The first thing you need to know is that it’s affordable - you can enjoy one with Select Van Leasing from just £302 per month, ex VAT*.
That’s a good chunk of change cheaper than a Volkswagen Transporter and many of the trim levels also undercut the lease price of the Vauxhall Vivaro.
A fully electric version of the Ford Transit Custom (below) arrives next year, and which will have a range of up to 236 miles between charges.
But for now you’ll have to settle for one of the diesel powertrains, which come with either added mild hybrid tech, or a full plug-in hybrid set-up. You’ve also got the option of all-wheel drive if you need it.
The regular 2.0 litre diesel has power of between 110 and 170 PS, and you can expect fuel economy of around 35 miles to the gallon.
There are two roof heights and various lengths to choose from for maximum flexibility, and depending on which configuration you opt for, there’s a payload of up to 1,327 kg.
For a full explanation of your height and length options, chat with one of the experts in our Select Van Leasing team.
In terms of trim, the entry level ‘Leader’ models bring you a full metal bulkhead, automatic LED headlights, and creature comforts like a large 13 inch touchscreen.
You also get, as standard, Ford’s ‘Sync 4’ infotainment system that includes Android Auto and Apple Car Play, which integrates with your phone seamlessly and accesses all of your favourite apps.
And let’s also not forget that the Transit Custom was also the best-selling vehicle of 2022, too, accounting for around one in three one-tonne commercial vehicles sold during the year!
Mandy Dean, Ford Pro lead for UK & Ireland, said at the time: “The Transit van serves as a vital tool for a variety of trades and professions and keeps Britain moving. With a wide range of body styles and configurations and with new all-electric versions added to the line-up, Ford is helping customers move into a more productive future whilst helping to meet their corporate sustainability commitments.”
The car registration figures come from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).
Besides the regular panel van, the Ford Transit Custom is also available to lease as a people carrier and even a fully-fledged camper.
