First converted BYD E-Vali previews UK potential

The BYD E-Vali has taken a step closer to a UK debut after receiving its first UK conversion.

Modul-System has fitted out a long-wheelbase, high-roof version of the large electric van to show how it could be used by parcel delivery, engineering and service fleets.

The converted van has been displayed at Road Transport Expo 2026, giving operators an early look at how BYD’s large electric van could work as a practical alternative to models such as the Ford E-Transit, Mercedes-Benz eSprinter and Renault Master E-Tech.

BYD has already confirmed plans to expand its UK commercial vehicle range, with the smaller Dolphin Cargo electric van and Shark 6 plug-in hybrid pick-up both on the way. The larger E-Vali hasn’t been officially confirmed for the UK yet, but right-hand-drive versions are expected to arrive in 2027.

First UK fit-out

The demonstrator is based on the BYD E-Vali Long Wheelbase High Roof and offers a load length of around 4.2 metres and an internal roof height of about 2.0 metres, providing the space needed for multiple industries.

To demonstrate that flexibility, Modul-System has created two different working layouts inside the same van.

One side is fitted with parcel-delivery shelving, designed for courier and last-mile delivery operators who need to organise packages and access them quickly throughout the day.

The other side features lightweight aluminium racking, designed for engineering fleets, utility companies, telecoms providers, highways contractors and mobile service operators.

The van also gets lightweight flooring, protective wall linings and vehicle-specific storage systems.

Conversions matter

A new electric van is only useful if it can be adapted for real working roles, which makes this conversion an important step for BYD as it looks to build credibility in the UK van market.

Kevin Walker, managing director of Modul-System UK, said the aim was to show operators what the E-Vali could do beyond the standard vehicle.

“Whenever a new commercial vehicle enters the market, fleet operators want to see what’s possible beyond the manufacturer’s brochure,” he said. “They want to understand how the vehicle performs as a real working environment.”

While UK pricing, final specification and delivery timings have yet to be confirmed, the fitted-out E-Vali gives customers an early look at how BYD’s large electric van could work when it reaches the market.
