Citroen Berlingo Van Lease

The Berlingo is Citroen's smallest panel van, sitting behind the medium-sized Dispatch and large Relay in the firm’s line-up of Light Commercial Vehicles (LCVs).

The versatile Berlingo is available in different sizes to make sure it really meets the needs of the businesses that rely on it, day after day. And a facelift for 2024 - which brought with it a new front grille for the exterior and fresh dashboard for the cabin - ensures the Berlingo continues to be a trend-setter.

In ‘M’ form, the Berlingo panel van is slightly shorter than the ‘XL’ model - though it can be configured with a bigger payload than its larger sibling.

The Berlingo M can be had in various guises. The ‘M 650’ has a maximum payload of 680kg, while the ‘M 1000’ has a payload of up to 1,000kg. The maximum load area, depending on which variant you choose, is 4.40 m3.

A useful selection of petrol and diesel engines provide power of up to 130 hp.

The good news is that even the base models come generously equipped as standard, including a full steel bulkhead, automatic headlights with integrated daytime running lights, overhead storage shelf in cabin, rear parking sensors, and a nearside sliding side loading door.

The Berlingo can also be equipped with a full suite of driver assistance and safety systems, including adaptive cruise control, lane centring, driver tiredness warning, and automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection.

If you’re ready to move away from traditionally-fuelled vans, you can also lease the Citroen e-Berlingo - a fully electric version of this popular workhorse.

Citroen’s update in 2023 increased the e-Berlingo’s range to 205 miles between charges, while rapid charging will replenish the battery’s energy from 10-80% in just 30 minutes.

As an alternative to other small vans like the Volkswagen Caddy and Vauxhall Combo Cargo, the Berlingo M - which sits in the Citroen van range between the Dispatch and Relay vans - is a must-consider.

About Citroen Berlingo

The Berlingo is Citroen’s long-serving van, first introduced more than 25 years ago. Thanks to its versatility, the current third-generation model is proving to be a favourite for commercial buyers, from owner-operators to huge fleet buyers. That’s been boosted by its flexibility, with engine options for every use.

Since its introduction in 2018, the Berlingo has remained a stalwart model for the French brand, selling more than 150,000 a year worldwide. In the UK, It’s also twinned with a number of models manufactured by the Stellantis Group, including the Vauxhall Combo, Peugeot Rifter and the Fiat Doblo. Toyota also uses the Berlingo platform for its ProAce City van, proving its suitability as compact commercial transport.

Why Lease a Citroen Berlingo

There’s a reason the Berlingo has been around for so long and a reason so many other models share its underpinning. This is one of the most versatile, capable and dependable vans on the market.

The Citroen is adaptable for several use cases, with versions made for higher payloads, more passengers, and better off-road performance, as well as models suited more to heavy payloads or large load volumes. There aren’t many jobs that wouldn’t suit a Berlingo.

Given the model’s long life, Citroen knows what its customers want and need, and that insight informed a truly well-rounded model. While capable for the jobs at hand, it’s also comfortable for the driver, with more features than ever before to ensure you arrive at your next job fresh and raring to go. In short, the Berlingo’s probably the biggest name in the small van game. A makeover in 2023 for 2024 also gave the Berlingo real staying power in the market.

Which trim level should I lease?

Once you’ve chosen what size panel van you need — there are two lengths, balancing payload and volume — you’ll then need to pick your trim. There are two main trims to choose from…

Enterprise Edition

Enterprise Edition

The entry-level to the Berlingo range, Enterprise models come with essentials such as an 8.0-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, air conditioning and cruise control.

Driver Edition

Driver Edition

The favoured model, Driver vans add everyday luxury, including satellite navigation, parking sensors, a reversing camera, and some style boosts to the outside of the van. Practicality is also improved by the Extenso modular folding passenger bench seat with pivoting writing table and additional storage.

Which Citroen Berlingo fuel type is right for me?

The Citroen Berlingo van has three different powertrains; diesel, electric and, unusually, petrol. The wide range means there’s likely to be something just right for your needs.

Diesel

There are two diesel engines available; BlueHDi 100 and BlueHDi 130, with the numbers giving the nod towards how much power each provides. Better suited to longer runs and high load weights, diesel power gives drivers more low-down grunt and an economical long-range cruising. Despite the allure of the extra 30hp from the BlueHDi 130, the BlueHDi 100 will be more than enough for most circumstances.

Petrol

Petrol-powered vans are few and far between, lacking the torque needed to lug heavy loads. However, the refinement offered by the petrol model will make driving more pleasurable. With 110hp, it’ll keep up with most things on the road while being less restricted by ever-expanding ULEZ areas and regulations. Heavy-duty users might want to look elsewhere, but it'll be brilliant for light use, city-based transport (perhaps you’re a florist?).

Electric

The e-Berlingo van is powered by a 54 kWh battery, introduced in 2023, which Citroen claims gives a range of up to 205 miles, with rapid charging from empty to 80% full in around 30 minutes. It’s an excellent option for short-distance deliveries, particularly in the growing number of cities with ultra-low emission zones — where it will save a fortune on fees — but for long motorway drives with heavy loads, this could be a challenging option.

What models are similar to the Citroen Berlingo that I should consider?

Toyota Proace City Electric Small Van

Toyota Proace City Electric Small Van

Like the Fiat Doblo, Peugeot Partner, and Vauxhall Combo, the Proace City is identical in almost every way to the Berlingo; they all share the same platform, engines and even infotainment systems. However, those looking at longer leases will find the long warranty period offered by Toyota a benefit.

Ford Transit Connect Small Van

Ford Transit Connect Small Van

The Transit Connect is a familiar sight on the nation’s roads thanks to its impressive economy, high payload limits and enormous range. It’s also good to drive and, being a Ford, there’s a service outlet in nearly every town.

Renault Kangoo E-Tech Small Van

Renault Kangoo E-Tech Small Van

A solid option, the latest Renault Kangoo is a match for most in terms of payload and cargo but adds an excellent driving experience and high equipment levels. There’s an excellent electric version, too.

Volkswagen Caddy Small Van

Volkswagen Caddy Small Van

The most car-like experience you can have in a van — much of the chassis is shared with the Volkswagen Golf. The Caddy is loaded with tech and is frugal to run, which will keep owner-operators and fleet managers alike happy.

Ben Crompton was fantastic and made our first time leasing a car through our Business an easy one. He was always on hand, efficient and explained everything we needed to know. He also gave us a contact to help install an electric wall charger, ready for our electric car. We will certainly come back to Select Car Leasing in the future. Many thanks.
