This week in Motoring - Latest news from the industry

Author: Select Car Leasing     Date: 22-12-2016

Another busy week in the world of motoring in the runup to christmas and a few interesting news snippets from some of the major manufacturers. An especially bigger billing this week due to the Detroit Motor Show's arrival in January meaning many new cars are being showcased in the preview to the big event.

NEW MERCEDES E CLASS COUPE 2017

Mercedes announced their new E Class Coupe for 2017 a few months back but officially confirmed the vehicles exact design and specification this week. The E Class COupe takes on a completely new design - though its still clearly an E Class Coupe the groundwork has definitely been put in place for this car by the design team.

Slightly different outlook on this years Coupe engines, which take on a different layout to the Saloon & Estate presets. When the E Class Coupe launches there will be a diesel & three petrols including the entry level E200 which current Mercedes drivers will be familiar with. The E220d is perhaps one of the quicker initial engines on offer with a 2.0-litre four cylinder with around 191bhp on offer. It'll do 0-62mph in 7.4 seconds and has a fairly impressive top speed of 150mph. The top dog is most certainly the E400 4MATIC which is capable of around 328bhp and its 3.0-litre V6 thats fitted will do 0-62mph in a commendable 5.3 seconds

BMW 5 SERIES HYBRID

Theres a new 5 Series on the horizon in 2017 and among a raft of updates to this highly popular model, BM are also introducing a hybrid model to it range for the first time in its decorated history. The 5 Series, BMW's classic luxury saloon with a hybrid engine would have been pretty unprecedented a few years ago but such is the growth in better economy technology that its a welcome addition to the 5 Series extensive engine list. The 530e combines a 2.0-litre four cylinder petrol with an electric motor which has an ouput of 250Nm of torque and 94bhp. Put the two together and you get some fairly impressive stats including 141mpg and CO2 emissions at as little as 46g/km.

2017 SKODA OCTAVIA SCOUT

More news this week from Skoda & the 2017 Octavia Scout which is shaping up to be a potential big player in the market. Skoda have enjoyed a prosperous couple of years and we can only see the scout adding to this. Not much info to go off on the Scout yet but its likely there will be a decent amount of interior technology and equipment. There will be a 9.2-inch touch screen with Wi-FI enabled and plenty of other additional kit as per many of Skoda's other models.

Some news on the engines and the starting models will be a 148bhp & 181bhp version of the 2.0-litre deisel engine that'll do 0-62mph in 9.1 sec and 7.8 seconds respectively.

AUDI Q8

The Audi Q level trim is expanding at a fair rate of knots tehese days and this is only strengthened by the first images of Audi's new Q8 model. Its not likely to be fully confirmed for a couple of weeks but in the meantime enjoy this little preivew to get a taster of what the Q8 may have on offer.
