This is it! Meet the new Mercedes-Benz GLC coming to the UK market!

Mercedes has officially revealed the GLC SUV coming to the UK market and replacing the existing squared GLK compact SUV (that never reached UK showrooms).

Replacing the GLK SUV

Mercedes replaces the existing GLK with the nrew name “GLC”, with a longer wheelbase, more space and more comfort. The new model has increased the interior space by 57 millimetres at front and rear sides with the decent space of elbow and shoulder room.

The new GLC will be able to carry up to 1600 litres of load space which is 50 litres more than was previously possible. The maximum luggage compartment length has been increased from 1100 millimetres to 1320 millimetres.

The replacement is much sleeker and shinier than the GLK and it also joins the Mercedes C-Class sedan line-up. You can see the dimension updates below:

All the engines are complying with the latest EU6 emission standards and come with auto start and stop technology. They also include the Mercedes nine-speed automatic transmission and 4Matic permanent four-wheel drive system. Mercedes-Benz is also going to offer with the plug-in hybrid version called GLC 350e 4MATIC which comes packed with the all-wheel drive system offering 60 grams per kilometre of CO2 and a top speed of 146mph. The semi-electric vehicle can cover up to 21 miles on all-electric model accelerating from 0 top 62 miles per hour in just 5.9 seconds. The model comes with all the characteristics of comfort and efficiency systems where driver can select their choice of model for comfortable driving.

Exterior design updates:

The GLC refers to the “sensual purity” & “modern luxury” that it is hoped the vehicle will offer, with its main competitors the Audi Q5 and BMW X5 from this November.

The side view appears coupe styled and has a much more elegant long profile. The rising lower feature line with matt black cladding wings which is clearly indicates the GLC’s off-road credentials. The rear side of the bench is characterised by the broad muscular shoulders and the split LED rear lamps featuring a distinctive design.

Upmarket interior:

Mercedes is confident saying the GLC will provide a feel-good atmosphere with high-class materials, nappa leather and hand-crafted wood trims. The interior dashboard is one of the main highlights of the GLC that comes with a large, one-piece console panel performing and an elegant sweep to the armrest.

Based on the same platform as the C-Class

The new GLC sits on the same platform as the award-winning C-Class with fuel economy and CO2 emissions has been improved by up to 19%.

The GLC’s cabin will also be familiar with the C-Class with three air-vents below a dash mounted touch screen and improved elbow, shoulder and leg room.

Air suspension and other tech tricks

The new model is loaded with new technology for a truly connected driving experience. Mercedes is offering air suspension as an option across the GLC range which is expected to cost around £1500 and is called unique in its class. The 4Matic all-wheel drive is standard at launch however company will offer the rear wheel drive models later on! Many of the features have been borrowed from the existing C and E-Class including auto brake, LED headlamps and traffic sign reading.

The GLC comes with a switch in the boot that lets you sink the car up and down for loading and unloading which makes it easy.

Release Date:

The GLC is making its UK launch in October, all the version comes with 4MATIC four-wheel drive as standard and a nine speed automatic gearbox.
