Land Rover have revealed the all-new version of their popular Discovery model. The car takes a large number of styling cues from the last Discovery model with plenty of impressive additions - the car will make its official debut at the Paris Motor Show this week.
There's plenty of trim options for Discovery drivers depending on what your intention is behind the wheel. Starting with S trim you'll get a decent amount of tech & practicality including cruise control & a powered tailgate. SE brings leather seats, sat-nav, front & rear parking sensors and many other notable additions. HSE & HSE Luxury bump the tech and styling significantly & you will get an upgraded infotainment system with HSE and dominating 21" alloy wheels with the Luxury verison among other impressive upgrades.
The Discovery is already one of the market's leaders but will hope to fend off other stiff competition from the XC90 & Q7.
Starting with what will arguably be the Discovery's most important feature - the engines. While there is likely to be a significant amount of interest in the Discovery in terms of its off road capabilities & interior tech the real victory for the Discovery will be under the bonnet. There will be a 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine at launch & petrol counterpart, each with very decent power on offer. The diesel benefits from slightly more generous statistics and will deliver 0-60mph in only 7.7 seconds with a cool 255bhp available. The petrol will go from 0-60mph in just 6.9 seconds but the diesel unsurprisingly defeats it when it comes down to economy with the petrol producing 26.0mpg & a hefty 256g/km of CO2. In contrast the diesel lowers that figure to 189g/km and has a better fuel economy at 39.2mpg as well.
There's also a debut for the 2.0-litre four-cylinder Ingenium which goes from 0-60mph in 8 seconds but gives signficantly better stats in the emissions & economy departments. CO2's for this engine sit at 171g/km with a healthy 43.5mpg.
Land Rover's interior quality & tech has really accelerated over the last few years so it might not be surprising that the Discovery benefits from a lavish internal design. You can customize much of your own interior but all models will get a swish new infotainment screen, Smartphone integration is also included and that means you can control many of the functions & apps on that screen from a button on your phone. The car also supports up to eight devices on a 4G WiFi Hotspot. Initial boot capacity sits at 258-litres but lowering the back seats - which can be done by button on the screen or on your phone - increases this to a comfortable 1,137, while with all the seats lowered the storage caps at 2,406-litres.
