Meet The New Ford GT Supercar..

Author: Select Contracts     Date: 16-01-2015

You may have heard a little bit about the famous Ford GT, it's been making a lot of noise from across the pond at the annual Detroit Auto Show. The first supercar from the manufacturing giant in ten years has been stretching column inches all week with it's striking appearance and impressive range of features, and we've summarised the flurry of information and hype that have followed the vehicle out of North America.

On first glance the vehicle is strikingly different to any of Ford's previous additions, it appears far more streamlined and it's clear a more fluid and stylistic design team have had a go at reviving what was perhaps becoming a tired image.

The vehicle neither looks nor appears to be a hulking heavyweight and this is outlined with an additional amount of carbon-fibre to lower the weight. Ford has already noted: "The GT will exhibit one of the best power-to-weight ratios of any production car ''. Perhaps the stand-out feature is the fact that an Ecoboost engine has muscled it's way past the super-charged V8 and there is already talk that this decision might revolutionize industry standards, and that the world-famous Lamborghini Aventador will soon follow suit. This, above anything else, is a great indication of the success wave that this vehicle has begun to generate - and theres more than a year of build-up to go. The EcoBoost engine, while being more economical, will still not fall short offering a twin-turbo 3.5-litre V6 engine driving the rear wheels at an incredible rate of '600bhp'. The vehicle will be only the third Ford super-car instalment and we truly can't wait to find out more. Everything to do with the exact speed and stats of the GT remains very hush-hush, but it's been quoted in various sources that the vehicle will easily top 200mph and will reach 0-60 in 3 seconds. Jaw-dropping.

Additional features include upward-swinging doors (a staple of the modern super-car) and an adjustable ride height. We're expecting it to be fairly high-tech on the inside, but of course details remain fairly sketchy. 2016 is when the vehicle will drop, and it'll land straight into a super-car warzone with the NSX and McLaren Sports Series already firmly entrenched in the market.

It's been ten years since the last GT Super Car was seen and it's fair to say the changes have been rife. We can't wait to find out more, and we'll have all the latest information as soon as it arises.
