Facelifted BMW 1 Series

The 1 Series is the smallest hatchback range to the BMW family, offering both three and five door versions. It is also worth mentioning the 1 Series is also one of the most popular models after 3 Series in the BMW range, with over 2 million models sold worldwide since it launched ten years ago.

Recently BMW has given a few facelift updates to its design and styling with updated engines. So let’s take a look what you will get with the new 2015 BMW 1 Series:

REVISED EXTERIOR DESIGN

Compare to its predecessor, the new 1 Series is sparking with the reshaped kidney grille, long bonnet, new headlamps, daytime running lights, lower rear apron and larger air intakes that giving a fresh new sporty look. M-Sport models get full LED headlights as standard.

The rear side has received a major overhaul with much slimmer L shaped LED taillights that wrap around the boot lid. All the 1 Series models from September onwards have navigation as standard.

INTERIOR UPDATES

Getting inside, the 1 Series received a new cloth fabric and a piano black finish has been applied to the centre console along with a chrome surrounds on the various buttons. The climate control and 6.5 inch touchscreen comes as standard. BMW has revised the self-parking function to include bay parking and parallel parking as well, while the radar-based active cruise control, with stop and go function is also now offered.

NEW ENGINE FAMILY

The 1 Series has received new engine family with BMW efficient dynamics technology. BMW says, the new engines are Euro 6 emission standard to reduce fuel consumption of up to 12 percent compare to its predecessor. A new 116D Efficient Dynamics Plus model offers a fuel efficiency of 83.1 miles per gallon and CO2 emissions as low as 89 grams per kilometre only. It means the road tax is free and exempt from London congestion charge.

Petrol engines

The 118i and 120i petrol engines are powered by 1.6 litre four cylinder engines offering fuel consumption of around 48 to 53 miles per gallon and Co2 emissions of 125 to 136 grams per kilometre. A 125i petrol engine featured a 2.0 litre engine enabling a 0-62 miles per hour time of just 6.2 seconds.

At the top of the petrol engine range remains the formidable M135i, powered by a six cylinder turbocharged engine where the power has been increased to 326hp, enabling a 0-62 miles per hour time of just 4.9 seconds, yet the ability to return fuel efficiency of 37.7 miles per gallon.

Diesel engines

The diesel engine 1 Series models are more powerful and more fuel efficient than ever before. A 116d engine powered by a 1.5-litre three-cylinder engine offers fuel efficiency of 78.5 miles per gallon and CO2 emissions of 94grams per kilometre only. The fuel efficiency figures has been improved with the 116d EfficientDynamics Plus model offers an excellent 83.1 miles per gallon fuel efficiency with CO2 emissions of just 89 grams per kilometre.

The new four-cylinder diesel engine used in the latest BMW 1 Series offered in three states of tune: 118d, 120d and 125d.
