Best Cars from the 2017 Geneva Motor Show

Author: Select Car Leasing     Date: 23-03-2017

Another edition of the world famous Geneva Motor Show has passed with yet more great cars arriving at one of motoring's premier events. The Show attracted a bumper crowd and was a great platform for many manufacturers to once again showcase some of their new vehicles.

FORD FIESTA /ST

The Fiesta is no stranger to redesign, with the vehicle undergoing over fifteen in its impressive history. Its arguable that each one has been well received & the fact Ford's main hatchback model continues to be the UKs best selling is a testament to this. We also saw the magnificent new Fiesta ST at the Geneva Motor Show and its fair to say Ford have done a good job upgrading this model as well. There's a 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbo engine to replace the old 1.6 & intial suggestions have hinted that upwards of 197bhp will be available. One of the great things about the ST was that while it managed to serve up great performance figures that still never compromised its proficiency in the economy department. This edition is no different - the new ST will produce just 114g/km.

HONDA CIVIC TYPE R

Yes we've started with two 'hot hatchbacks' but the Type R is really worth a look. Its a vehicle thats been on the scene for quite a while but never managed to nail down a consistent spot among some of the more esteemed performance hatchbacks c available. The new Type R has had a dramatic revamp in terms of appearance  and its engines aren't far off the best, either. There will be a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine delivering around 316bhp and going from 0-62mph in about 5.7 seconds. The interior has also been given high praise from some important motoring opinion formers and is likely to be largely 'race-geared'.

MCLAREN 720S

Anything from McLaren is always likely to attract a fair bit of interest and the 720S was no different, arriving at the tail end of the show is still managed to draw the crowds. Striking is an understatement, with an exterior that is truly jaw-dropping and an incredibly advanced interior with plenty of modern technology to support the most demanding McLaren driver. There won't be many cars able to compete with the McLaren's raw pace - a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 under the bonnet will rocket from 0-62mph in just 2.9 seconds and has the potential to reach an astounding 212mph. The 720S has been built with a predominantly lightweight carbon fibre materials and its interior will be packed with a large TFT Display Screen.

VOLVO XC60

Yes its not a showstopper; but the Volvo XC60 is a guaranteed seller for the Swedish manufacturer. The XC60 performs almost as well as the slightly larger XC90 in the market and with the upmarket revamp to the new model its difficult to see this changing any time soon. Further details will be announced in due course, but the XC60 will be arriving in Sweden as soon as April so it won't be too long before we have the full lowdown. As a Volvo, you could rightfully expect plenty of safety technology and that remains true of the XC60 which will offer Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Pilot Assist & much more.

Intially available in the engine department for the XC60 will be a 187bhp D4, 232bhp D5 and also plug in Hybrid 'T8' model which will be capable of reaching 35 miles on electric fuel alone and have around 401bhp in the tank. There will also be a sole petrol option in the form of the T5 Petrol delivering 251bhp.
