Audi A1: Affordable Hatchback?

On first impressions, the Audi A1 is a very attractive vehicle, with a front and side styling not dissimilar to the A3 and A4 - in fact the vehicle's grille and headlamps have been often mistaken for it's more brashly designed cousins. Whichever colour you choose the A1's verve and panache is there for all to see; underwhelming hatchback it is not.  It won't shout at other motorists with it's appearance, but it has enough slick features to offer a second-glance and has a punchy front-end that is synonymous with class.

The interior is equally as crisp, and overall comfort appears somewhat unwavering. An infotainment system, and metal finish of the heating and stereo controls are impressive to say the very least. Unlike many of it's direct competitors it blends quality materials - perhaps the Audi touch - to create an interior that actually feels good. The driving position is good as well, and there is a host of standard equipment available both optional or otherwise. As long as your not planning on living in the A1, 270-litres of boot space is easily enough, but there is perhaps a sacrifice at play here as long journeys with the car full will be slightly cramped. It's worth remebering despite it's Audi badge and classy appearance; the A1 is a small hatch by definiton. That said, there is far greater leg-room in the front and the vehicle is said to be 100mm longer than it's main challenger the distinguished MINI hatchback.

Electric windows, blue-tooth, air-con all the meaty features that motorists love to get their teeth stuck into are also all inclusive.

Costing peanuts to run doesn't quite cover it - the A1's overall running costs will heal any holes in your pocket. There are a host of engines on-show that potentially blow it's competitors such as the Fiat 500 out of the water. Don't be fooled by the amount of souped-up A1's running around leafy suburbs - the standard engines are just swell. As basic engines go, the 1.0-litre TFSI has undergone a renovation recently, and is both highly economical and adequately powerful producing 94bhp. If that doesn't take your fancy, there are plenty more apples on the tree with two 1.4-litre TFSI's that showcase 123bhp and 148bhp. There are no extra tax costs as both engines are below CO2 emissions of 100g/km

Slightly less economical and environmentally friendly is an engine offering 1.6 TDI providing 114bhp and powering to 0-62mph in 9.4 seconds, also tax-free. Capping out at 155mph in it's most furious form the A1 is truly a force to be reckoned with. We have a selection of the finest Audi deals just waiting to capitalized upon.
