Select Car Leasing are delighted to be supporting members of the Hampshire Fire and Rescue team as they tackle the Everest Base Camp Trek in November this year, all in aid of The Firefighters Charity, which does vital work when it comes to the mental wellbeing of firefighters across the UK.
On the 9th November 2019, a team of 14 Firefighters from Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service will be treking above Everest Base Camp in Nepal to Kalapathar. Everest Everest Base Camp is: 17,600ft above sea level and Kalapathar sits at a huge 18,208ft.
Everest needs little or no introduction - it's simply one of the most dangerous environments in the world - and presents an enormous challenge to the team. At the height they'll be reaching, there is less than 50% oxygen and the temperature can drop to as low as: -37'c. It also poses additional challenges including: Sickness, confusion, dehydration and fatigue.
The team will follow in the footsteps of some of the most famous climbers and explorers in world history, such as: Sir Edmund Hillary, Tenzing Norgay and George Mallory. The trek is anticipated to take 12 days, walking an average of 9hrs each day.
All money raised is for theFirefighters Charity, an important cause, that does vital work across the UK: www.firefighterscharity.org.uk
Mental health problems In the fire service have risen by atleast a third in the last 6 years. 85% of Fire and Rescue personnel have experienced stress and poor mental health. Fire service personnel are more likely to experience mental health problems than the general workforce. This can affect their performance, relationships and physical health.
The money raised will help provide psychological support to firefighters following traumatic life and death incidents and its importance cannot be overstated. You can donate to the cause direclty by visiting the: www.justgiving.com/fundraising/craig-sadler8
