Volvo XC40 Review
An all-electric small SUV with premium features, a distinctly Scandinavian appeal and a surprisingly brisk turn of pace.

In simple terms, leasing is the single most cost-effective and hassle free method of driving a brand-new car, and with Select Car Leasing you can be sure that you are in safe hands.
While the big three German brands of Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz are so often the go-to choices for premium small SUVs, the Volvo XC40 should absolutely be on your list. A left-field choice it might be, but it’s a great car with a brilliant interior, lots of safety equipment and some very punchy engines, including a surprisingly fast all-electric model. It’s picked up a load of awards, and it’s not hard to see why.
The XC40 is a premium product, but its leasing rates are impressive considering what you get for your money. Of course, they’re particularly impressive at Select Car Leasing, as we can use our market-leading contacts within the automotive industry to get the most competitive leasing deals and special offers in the country. While some premium SUVs aim to offer excitement and sportiness, the Volvo XC40 majors on classiness and comfort. It’s got eye-catching but not gaudy looks, and a distinctly Scandinavian, minimalist interior that feels really well made. You can choose from several petrol engines with either front or four-wheel drive, and there are also two powerful plug-in hybrid models. The real performance model is also the zero-emission electric XC40, which has more than 400 horsepower for incredible acceleration.
Volvo has always had a very well-deserved reputation for safety. The XC40 was reviewed and tested by independent safety organisation Euro NCAP in 2018 and scored the maximum five stars, with a particularly brilliant mark for adult occupant safety. All models get an automatic emergency braking system and a lane departure warning system, which warns you and corrects the steering if you veer out of your lane unintentionally. While the XC40 is a small car – about the size of a Ford Focus in terms of footprint – it’s spacious inside, with plenty of legroom and headroom in the back for four grown ups, and perhaps a fifth if they’re not too tall. The boot isn’t the largest around, but it’s easy to access with a nice flat load area.
Volvo has three trim levels, each with a different vibe. The Momentum is what Volvo calls its ‘premium’ trim, with 18-inch alloy wheels, rear parking sensors and a 9.0-inch portrait-orientated touchscreen infotainment system. The Inscription trim focuses more on luxury, with a gloss black grill and silver skid plates on the outside, and wooden inlays with leather upholstery inside. The R-Design model, meanwhile, is the sporty one, with black and silver alloy wheels, a mesh grill, black roof and leather and nubuck on the seats. Within each trim you can also choose from the standard or Pro version, the latter of which adds extra features.
Brilliant experience from start to finish.
Adam was great at dealing with all my needs. Very knowledgeable and listened well.
I have been very happy with the service I received from Select Car Leasing. Jordan was always helpful if I had any queries and also when I had some initial issues accessing the customer portal. The car was also delivered 2 weeks earlier than the due date so I was very happy!
