Volkswagen ID.3 Frequently Asked Questions
The ID.3 might not have a Volkswagen Golf badge, but there’s a lot of parallels between it and one of VW’s most famous creations. They’re both five-door family hatchbacks of about the same size, and from the same manufacturer. But VW decided to spin off an all-electric hatchback into an all-new model, and so the ID.3 was born. With more daring looks and several motor and battery options, it could be one of the main cars that brings electric driving well and truly into the mainstream.
Is an electric ID.3 more expensive to lease than a petrol or diesel Golf? Well, yes, but not by too much. And you stand to save a fortune in running costs, because electricity is much cheaper than regular fuel. You also stand to save with Select Car Leasing, because our market-leading connections to the automotive industry mean we can offer the most competitive leasing rates and special offers in the country. It’s hard not to keep coming back to the Golf as a comparison, but the ID.3 represents that same all-round appeal; it’s very good at lots of things. The electric power is the headline feature of this five-door hatchback, with several choices of battery and power for different budgets, performance and range. At the top end, the Pro S can do 340 miles per charge, while the entry-level Pure Performance can manage 217 miles. Power aside, it’s very comfortable to drive, looks great and has lots of tech inside.
The Volkswagen ID.3 was reviewed and tested by independent safety organisation Euro NCAP in 2019 and scored the maximum five stars. All models get an automatic emergency braking system that can recognise cyclists and pedestrians as well as other vehicles. You’ll also get a driver tiredness alert system, adaptive cruise control and Lane Assist, which warns you if you veer out of your lane unintentionally. From a practicality point, it’s actually better than the Golf in several ways. There’s more space inside, with plenty of room for five people and a flat floor to increase leg space in the back. The boot is almost exactly the same size as the Golf, which is to say decent, if not massive.
You’ll need to pick your motor and battery combo, of which you have four choices: Pure Performance, Pro, Pro Performance and Pro S. Then you can choose from three trim levels (although not all power choices come in every trim). The trim choices start with the entry-level Life model, which has 18-inch steel wheels, cloth seats, LED headlights and a wireless smartphone charger. Next on the list is Family, which has sat-nav and clever Matrix LED headlights that give you better visibility in the dark, as well as a panoramic glass roof. The top-spec model is called Max, which has all of the above, and an augmented reality head-up display, which projects driving information onto the windscreen in front of you.
Experience didn't start well, I had ordered a car offered as in stock as I was on a tight turn around with my former lease vehicle through another provider being returned. I only found out by chance of logging in that the planned delivery date had been pushed back (which would have potentially meant missing out on a holiday as no vehicle). However once Mark and the team picked up on this they truly went above and beyond to sort it out and ended up getting my vehicle delivered several days earlier than expected. Very impressed and would definitely recommend.
Great service from Voytek from start to finish. This is the 2nd time I’ve leased a car with his help and couldn’t fault anything. The transition has been seamless, I highly recommended him for future leasing! Thanks Voytek for everything :-)
