And the Formentor - a jaw-droppingly distinctive SUV with coupe-like lines and also a sibling to the more SUV-like CUPRA Ateca - goes up against rivals like the Audi Q3 and Volvo XC40.

There's a good choice of trim levels, from the base V1, which features a 1.5 litre 150 PS petrol engine, to the snarling VZ3, which boasts a 2.0-litre TSI mill generating 310 PS of peak power and 400Nm of torque.

The VZN trim builds on the VZ3 to add bespoke styling as well as an uprated interior and both of those variants are capable of accelerating from 0-62mph in just 4.9 seconds, courtesy of ‘4Drive’ all-wheel-drive.

The good news is that even a base V1 CUPRA Formentor lease deal will give you a generous amount of equipment as standard, including 18 inch alloys, 12-inch touchscreen with sat nav, rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, lane assist, and LED headlights, and wireless phone charging.

There's also a plug-in hybrid Formentor - the e-Hybrid. It utilises a 1.4 litre petrol engine married to a 85 kW electric motor and 13kWh battery, and is tuned to either 204PS or 245PS.

The e-Hybrid also has an electric-only range of 37 miles, which means it attracts an ultra low Benefit in Kind (BIK) tax rate.

If, like us, you appreciate the CUPRA Formentor’s aggressive, youthful exterior styling as well as its plush cabin, leasing a one is likely to be a tempting proposition.

About the Cupra Formentor

Although the Formentor sounds like a thunderous moniker, it’s named after a part of the island of Majorca, but that's not a bad place to start.

It is a nod to its Spanish heritage, then, with Cupra being a sub-brand of Catalonia-based Seat.

The Formentor is coupe-styled and has chiselled looks, with its shapeliness mainly crafted of straight lines, which add so much personality to its aesthetics.

It is also very well equipped and, although it was a brand-new car when it was launched, it’s based on the same platform as a Volkswagen Golf.

And, with the Golf having its famed GTi and ‘R’ versions nowadays, that’s also not a bad place for Cupra to start from.

Why lease a Cupra Formentor?

The Cupra Formentor blends the aggressive looks of an athletic hot hatchback with the practicality of a small SUV.

It isn’t bad with fuel economy, either, with more modest power outputs available, although some versions do pack a punch for those that want more thrills.

It is reasonably spacious inside, too, and it has the German dependability of the parent Volkswagen Group above it, which owns both Seat and Cupra.

The interior is inviting and garnished with various bits of copper-coloured finish, which is the brand's official colour and adds a nice touch to the cabin.

The fact that it’s a car exclusive to the Cupra brand means it’s got a distinct personality of its own, too. So, if you think the Seat brand is too modest to whet your appetite for excitement, don’t let it put you off.

Which CUPRA Formentor powertrain is right for me?

Petrol

A 1.5-litre petrol engine provides power of 150 PS, while a much more potent 2.0 litre TSI unit offers power of 310 PS as well as a rapid acceleration time.

Plug-in hybrid

While it's not available on Formentor models further up the trim level, the plug-in hybrid 'eHybrid' powertrain offers 245 PS while being capable of travelling for up to 37 miles using electricity alone.

Ben Crompton was fantastic and made our first time leasing a car through our Business an easy one. He was always on hand, efficient and explained everything we needed to know. He also gave us a contact to help install an electric wall charger, ready for our electric car. We will certainly come back to Select Car Leasing in the future. Many thanks.
