While the BMW M2 hasn’t been tested by Euro NCAP, its closely related cousin, the BMW 1 Series, has an impressive five-star rating. With many shared elements, the M2 is likely to have inherited much of the same level of safety. There’s also a driver assistance package, including city collision mitigation and forward collision warning, and an upgraded M2 Competition braking system which can be added to enhance safety (and performance) even further.
As for practicality, the three-door design might not make it the most family-friendly option but, with a reasonable 390-litre boot capacity, you’ll manage the weekly shop without an issue.
The BMW M2 has two variants, the M2 Competition, and the hardcore M2 CS. The M2 CS offers more power, rising to 450hp, alongside adaptive suspension and a choice of either manual or double-clutch automatic gearbox, which is also an option on the M2 Competition.
While it’s not quite an M2, there is also the BMW M240i Coupe, which offers the sporty M2 styling combined with a more sedate, everyday set-up. With 340hp on offer, it’s no slouch, though.
